VERNON MICHAEL MAYER

7/27/33 - 1/30/25

Vern Mayer of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025 at Cerenity Senior Care Facility at the age of 91.

Vern was born on July 27, 1933 to parents John and Anna Mayer in St. Paul. Vern was the youngest of four Mayer boys-his brothers were Richard, Peter and Melvin. Vern attended St. Francis Elementary School and Monroe High School, excelling in football and baseball. Monroe was also where he met his sweetheart, Dorothy Mader. Vern and Dorothy were married for 69 years, and he loved her more every day. They moved to Maplewood and through the years befriended many neighbors who became lifelong friends. Vern served in the United States Army, and afterward returned home where he was employed at Bauer Floor Covering and other stores as an installer of linoleum floors and formica countertops. Later he worked as a salesman for St. Paul Linoleum and Carpet. Upon his retirement, with the help of his son Paul, he started a career in woodworking, creating Vern's Wood Goods.

Vern loved many things-fishing, boating, bowling, golfing, woodworking, home improvement projects, cutting the grass, his beloved dogs, the Vikings, Dorothy's apple pie, an ice cold glass of water and a good cup of coffee, his many friends and family, and especially Dorothy.

Vern is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; children Julie (Tom), Joe (Jeanine); Peter (Beth); Paul (Beth) and Mary (Timm); 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 28, at St. Jerome Catholic Church (380 E. Roselawn Avenue, Maplewood, MN) at 11:00 a.m. followed by a brief luncheon. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. There will be a private interment at a later date.

Through the 1980s, my family of three was one befriended by Vern and Dorothy in our Maplewood neighborhood. It was a wonderful welcome for us as new Minnesotans, and it was hard to move away from the Mayer family.
May your memories of Vern give you peace and comfort.

We were so blessed to have our Uncle Vern Mayer in our lives. I have wonderful childhood memories of fun family get togethers with Uncle Vern and Aunt Dorothy and my cousins Julie, Joe, Peter, Paul and Mary, their children. Vern was a great husband to my Aunt Dorothy and a loving father to my cousins. He was fun to be around and my parents greatly enjoyed his company. He was liked by all who knew him and will be sadly missed. He was one of my favorite Uncle's. May he rest in God's loving embrace.Laura (Slater), Mark , Ryan, and Sara Hatzenbeller and families.
