Reingold Family,
I was so very sorry to hear about the loss of Vern. He was truly one "special" person! I will never forget when he drove me from EKC to Morgantown hospital because I was injured at camp. He was so kind and sensitive! He took good care of me! He always had the wonderful smile! I bet he is smiling down at all of us!

To Claire and family,

My deepest condolences and heartfelt love for Vern. No words can do justice to the impact and legacy Vern left on so many people in his family, friendship circle, local community and EKC. He truly served himself, others and life to the fullest with a overflowing cup of love, joy, happiness and laughter. Vern always had a special gift to put a smile on your face, make you laugh and light your day up brighter than prior to seeing him. Love ya Vern and you will be missed tons!

To the Reingold family:
When Marilyn and I moved to Sq. Hill Vern bought us a silver bowl for our dining room. After 13 years we still use the bowl and think of him every time we see it. He was a great friend of mine at HUD and we will miss him.

May Vern please rest in peace. Like so many others have written, his wit, his charm and his talent was literally an institution in both Squirrel Hill and at EKC. Summers were something special with Vern and Claire around. Claire, may the great memories help you through this no doubt difficult time. And hopefully all of the kind words will help in the healing process.

Saddened to hear of Vern's passing. He so typified the founders of the Sports Hall of Fame, in his unending generosity, for which he sought nothing in return. It was my good fortune that our paths crossed, and the good fortune of the youth of the community who continue to benefit from his spirit of kindness. Well done, my friend.

I can not think of EKC without thinking fondly of Vern. His legacy lives on through these wonderful memories, thinking of his faithful dauchsands and all the physical buildings on the grounds of camp. My prayers and thoughts are with you today and always.

Dear Claire and the entire Rheingold extended family. The Gelman family of Harrisburg was saddened to learn of Vern's passing. We, including our children, Micah and Ashley, have wonderful memories of experiences we shared with Vern going back almost a half-century. His wit, common sense, sensitive nature, and soft spoken manner marked him as a mensch. His love for Claire was wonderful to behold. We will miss him and extend our condolences to you all.

To The Reingold Family,
We are very sadden by the news of Vernon's passing. We can only imagine what the family is going through and the countless number of people he touched. Thirty years ago I worked with him at HUD. We still managed to keep in touch; the last was on Mother's Day. He is the only person I know that remembers names of people he met once years ago. Thank you Vernon for the memories made during a wonderful time in my life. I still have the can of Reingold Beer! You will be truly missed but never forgotten.

My condolences to his family...he will be missed. He shared his humor, his intelligence, his wit, and his empathy always. Vernon never focused on the negative aspects of a situation or a person, but always emphasized the positive. He always left me with a smile. I worked with him at HUD, and his "yuppa-tuppa" language made many staff members smile. I just talked with him about a month ago, and was so touched by his phone call. That how Vernon was - always surprising me with a call. He will be missed. He was definitely one of a kind!

I worked with Vernon for several years. When my daughter was hospitalized over Christmas, Vernon donned his Santa suit and went to see her . . .It made her day...that's just the kind of person Vernon was. . . Anyone who knew him would not be surprised by this action. He was a true humanitarian. I will miss him.

October 4, 2010

Dear Claire- My deepest sympathies. I know how much Vern meant to my kids - Lauren and Paul, and thus to me. We will remember him in our prayers. Lois Jackson

While I was a co-worker with Vernon at the Pittsburgh FHA Office, we would often take walks at lunch time in an attempt to hold down our waistlines. During those walks it was not uncommon for Vernon to be on a first name basis with half the people we met. I appreciated Vernon's humor, his perception, his intelligence and the joy with which he approached life. And, I loved him for his kindness and ability to say the right thing to those who needed encouragement. Vernon will always remain in my memory.

Vernon was one of the kindest, most generous and funniest people I have had the pleasure to know. He was also one of the smartest. I worked with him for just a couple years forty years ago, but remained his friend and loved seeing him all around town. The word has lost a wonderful guy.
