I was sad to hear of Mr. Vernon's passing. I dated his Grandson in HS and have such fond memories of being at the house with him & Miss Kitty...Such kind and soft souls they both had...I know they are rejoined in great harmony uP in Heaven. Thanks Mr. V for teaching me how to grow potatoes!! I loved it way back when you taught me? And still plant them to this day with the same enjoyment you shared with me! Loving thoughts to the entire family....CHRIS NEUKAM

"When I think of Vernon I think of gentle, caring and organized. I remember so many stories of Vernon and my Dad traveling to Frederick to see my Mom and spending the night in a barn. And lots of pictures Vernon took including one of my Mom pregnant with me. Both he and Kitty were always fun to be around. They will always be a part of our family."

Enjoyed talking to him about history. Also he made great stuffing and chocolate cake at Thanksgiving. He had a great sense of humor and we enjoyed his visit to us on Long Island.

Remembering your family and the wonderful memories of Pop. I'm sure Gingy is happy to have Pop with her again.
I love you and will miss you always.

Thoughts and prayers to you all

Whenever we think of Pops, we smile. He had a wonderful and kind sense of humor. He was a great listener and his presence was a joy and a comfort at all of the many Smallwood gatherings we were blessed to attend. He will be missed and remembered with love and gratitude. Keeping you in our hearts and prayers with love, Debbie and John Rhoad (Laurel, Md)

Vernon was a true gentleman and was like a brother to my mother, Fern. Will miss his humor and gentleness.

The twinkle in his eye, the smile and gentle laugh, and the love for all of us will be the memories we hold on to. But not to be forgotten are the visits to Brighton with the giant boxes of donuts and the long lazy days of fishing, talking about baseball and just enjoying time together. And now I imagine he's still smiling with Aunt Kitty, the love of his life. Rest in Peace, Uncle Vernon.

Vernon will be remembered as the thoughtful yet humorous guy who was always fun to be around. Behind that intellect was a humorous comment at the ready. He was Mr. Fixit. Any mechanical thing that needed attention, Vernon could somehow figure out how to get working again. He had a mind that was sharp and operated methodically. Best memories for me relate to fishing in Brighton pond in Virginia. Goodbye Vernon....thanks for some terrific memories.....you're the best. Tell Kitty hi.

Was so sorry to hear about your Dad. With time, the pain will ease, the emptiness will remain, but the memories will live on forever in your heart. Remember the fun times...........I know I will. Love to everyone.
