VERONICA M. ROMKOWSKE JENSEN, 91 ROCKFORD - Veronica M. Romkowske Jensen, 91, of Rockford died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, in Provena Cor Mariae Center. Born Oct. 27, 1917, in Bismarck, N.D., daughter of Christopher and Magdalen (Bartole) Fritz. Married Joseph A. Romkowske in May 1947, in Chicago; he died in 1962. She then married Paul Jensen in 1979; he predeceased her in 1990. Member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Employed by the U.S. Postal Service. She was a postal clerk for the North Suburban Branch in Chicago and retired from the Crystal Lake post office in 1982. She bowled for many years on several leagues and volunteered for the food pantry in McHenry. Veronica was a very independent, hard working woman who always had a smile on her face. Survivors include son, Burke (Linda) Romkowske of Rockford; grandchildren, Laura Kirschmann, Staff Sgt. Thomas (Andrea) Romkowske, USMC and Pfc. Brian Romkowske, USMC; great-grandchildren, Hailee, Abigail and Elyse Romkowske and Katherine Kirschmann; sisters, Magdalen Fritz and Mary Smith; sister-in-law, Mildred Fritz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth, Susan, Georgette and an infant sister; and brother, Joseph. Funeral Mass at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in the chapel of Provena Cor Mariae Center, with visitation from 9:45 a.m. to time of Mass; the Rev. John L. Stringini will officiate. Private family burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Condolences and remembrances may be sent at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
