MR. JOHN EDWIN REHM OCT. 3, 1925-FEB. 8, 2003 John E. 'Eddie' Rehm -- A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died at a local hospital on Saturday, February 8, 2003. Mr. Rehm is survived by his wife, Gretchen Guthans Rehm; one daughter, Andrea T. Rehm of Mobile; two sons, John E. 'Jack' Rehm, Jr. of Marietta, GA and Gary G. Rehm of Jackson, MS; two daughters-in-law, Karen Larkin Rehm of Marietta, GA and Melba Willard Rehm of Jackson, MS; and five grandchildren, J. E. 'Trey' Rehm, III, USN, Prather Claire Rehm and Jennifer Andrea Rehm of Marietta, GA, Gary G. Rehm, Jr. and Emily Celeste Rehm of Jackson, MS. He was a WWII veteran and an Alumnus of Spring Hill College. Mr. Rehm had retired from AMSOUTH Bank. He maintained an active position in the community, serving on the Seton Board, Providence Hospital, was a former member of the Mobile County Personnel Board, served as President of Associated Industries of Alabama, and participated in various other community organizations and activities. Mr. Rehm was a member of St. Ignatius Parish. Memorial services will be held from St. Joseph's Chapel at Spring Hill College on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. til service time on Tuesday. (For those attending please use Dauphin St. entrance). The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eddie's favorite charity, Saint Mary's Home for Children, 4350 Moffett Road, Mobile, AL 36618. Funeral arrangements by RADNEY FUNERAL HOME, 3155 Dauphin St., Mobile, AL.

As director of planning at Providence, I appreciated the opportunity to meet and work with Mr. Rehm, and want to express my sincere condolences. He was a faithful friend of our health ministry and his many years of service are appreciated.

Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty

In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,

Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever,

Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly

Trod the valley of the shade?

Oh! but Jesus' love illumined

Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me

In that way so hard to tread;

And with Jesus' arm to lean on,

Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,

For I love you dearly still:

Try to look beyond earth's shadows,

Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,

So you must not idly stand;

Do it now, while life remaineth-

You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,

He will gently call you Home:

Oh, the rapture of that meeting,

Oh, the joy to see you come!

To the Rehm Family:

I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Rehm died. I thought he was such a wonderful person. He was like the "John Wayne" of Mobile.

Someone gave me this poem when my parents died and I wanted to pass it on to you.
