Vickie Kalscheur Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 3, 2025.
Vickie Lynn (Calkins) Kalscheur, born January 22, 1959 in Mazomanie, Wisconsin passed away suddenly in her home on February 15, 2025 in The Villages, Florida.

She is survived by her children Katie (Will Reinhardt), Josh (Emily) Kalscheur, and Jacob Kalscheur, her two grandsons Auggie and Liam, her mother Phyllis Calkins, her brother David Calkins, and her partner Steve Bloom.

Vickie was known for her bubbly, outgoing personality. Beautiful inside and out, she possessed undeniable warmth, a contagious smile, and showed genuine interest in everyone she met, readily befriending nearly anyone. Vickie had a way of lighting up the room and becoming the life of the party. People were drawn to her magnetic personality, vivacious presence, and easy sense of humor. Vickie had a big heart and an even bigger, unmistakable, laugh. She fiercely protected her children and loved them unconditionally, they were her pride and joy. She was absolutely delighted to become a grandma last year and took every opportunity to brag about her two adorable grandsons to anyone who would listen.

Vickie had numerous friends and was involved in many groups throughout her life. She went to Wisconsin Heights High School, where she graduated top of her class in 1977. Vickie was a lifeguard, played clarinet in the marching band, and was a natural athlete. She played several sports including volleyball competitively in high school and college, cheerleading, softball, and later in life, pickleball. But, her true passion was dancing. She danced several nights a week and almost every weekend. Vickie was a fast learner and even faster on her feet; she loved any style of dance, but the 50's held a special place in her heart. Vickie leaves behind over 30 different pairs of dance shoes, all will be sold at a dance held in her honor with all proceeds being donated to The American Heart Association. (Details for this commemorative dance are below).

Vickie prided herself on her endless work ethic. She put herself through dental school at MATC, where she earned her Associates degree in Dental Hygiene in 1981. One of her proudest accomplishments in life was returning to college later in life. Vickie went to school full time, completing classes at night while concurrently working full time and parenting teenagers on their way to college themselves. Vickie graduated summa cum laude with her Bachelor's degree in Applied Science at Northern Arizona University in 2010. Vickie practiced as a Dental Hygienist for roughly 47 years, spending the majority of her professional years working at Dental Health Associates of Madison. She was a cherished member of the dental community, adored by her coworkers and patients alike - many of whom she kept closely in touch with until the end of her life. Vickie decided it was time to put down her dental instruments and retire shortly after the start of the COVID pandemic.

Vickie's other passion was travel. She never missed the opportunity to take time off for adventure. She believed in enriching her life through lived experiences. "Travel not to escape life, but to make sure life doesn't escape you". Some of her best days were spent traveling the world, as well as embarking on a cruise each winter to enjoy the warm sun and turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

Vickie also enjoyed the simple things in life: puzzles, perusing the aisles of a thrift store, staying up too late, putzing with a project (she always had a project), playing games with a glass of wine- preferably outside on her deck, overlooking her meticulous garden on a warm summer evening - and preferred to share her time, laughing, with her loved ones.

Vickie loved and was loved by so many. She loved her children immensely and lived her life to the fullest, vacationing and dancing until the day she passed. Vickie left us far too soon- her absence is felt deeply by all who knew her and she will be missed beyond measure. While we grieve her loss, we may console ourselves with the knowledge that she lived a full and happy life, continues to watch over her loved ones, and dances to 50's music on a cruise in the Caribbean sun. Until we meet again, Vickie.

"The best things in life are the people we love, the places we travel and the memories we've made along the way" - Anonymous

I just heard about Vickie's passing. I am shocked. She had such a zest for life. She was my dental hygienist when i lived in Madison. I loved her and we always had great conversations. I do recall that she loved her children dearly and that she loved to travel. Heaven has gained another angel. RIP Vickie.

My heartfelt sympathy to Vickie's family. We shared an apartment on Gilman St. during the dental hygiene program at MATC. I'll always remember her determination, quick wit, and beautiful smile. Rest in peace Vickie.

We are shocked and saddened to hear this. I met her in dental hygiene school many decades ago. We enjoyed meeting up with her and Steve at many Madison area fests.

Our sincerest condolences

As everyone knows it was a joy to watch Vickie dance. You could see her energy and her joy of life as she moved around the floor. I missed seeing her on the dance floor when she moved to Florida. My condolences to her close friends and family for I´m sure her sudden passing leaves an empty spot in their lives.

Vickie was a great inspiration to me when I started dancing. I admired the way she did her steps/moves. I´m glad I told her so the last time I saw her when she visited Madison last fall. I´ll miss seeing her dance.

I remember the first time I ever shared a dance with Vickie at the Recreation Plantation dance over two years ago and have shared so many with her since then there and all over The Villages! She would always greet me with a big hug and was so happy, joyful and so full of love and laughter. She was an absolute pleasure to have known, and I and so many others will miss her, but never forget that joy she left in our hearts forever! God has a new Angel to share the Kingdom of Heaven with
