Victor Albert Bubas

As freshman basketball coach at nc state university coach Bubas selected me as 1 of 3 "walk ons" for the the freshman basketball team. I will always remember his interest and encouragement and his kind , dedicated manner. I always felt honored by his interest. But later in my freshman year I felt the need to spend more time on my nuclear engineering studies and unfortunately dropped out of the freshman team. I think now that was a mistake since I could have learned so much more about life from him and my freshman basketball team members, some of whom became nationally recognized basketball stars.

Coach Vic,
You had a profound influence on my life as both a Duke student and athlete. The lessons of life that I learned from you will be carried to my grave. God bless you and your family. Rex McKinley '63 (T)

We send our thoughts and prayers to the Bubas family. Although I did not know Coach personally, my stepfather, Bill Kukoy was a friend and teammate of Vic's at Lew Wallace and N.C. State. He shared great stories about the history of the game in their era. The friendships they developed and love of the game, travels, coaches, competitors. From what I know, gentlemen all.
