Victor Itoi Obituary

Victor Paul Itoi, 69, of Seattle, Washington, passed away of colon cancer on November 24, 2023, in Seattle. Born on April 28, 1954, in Seattle, Victor was a likeable, bright, inquisitive, and sensitive soul. He was respectful of others and very accommodating to others' needs. He dutifully and lovingly attended and cared for his parents, Henry and Minnie, during their last days.

Victor had attended the University of Washington. He had been in the US Army Reserve, and he had worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Victor is survived by his cousins Sherrie Sparks, Mark Brinsfield, Susan Davison, Peter Sone, John Sone, and Shawn Brinsfield. He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Itoi, and his father, Henry Itoi.

The burial service, on May 4th, 2024, for Victor Paul Itoi will be arranged by Washelli-Evergreen Funeral Home, located in Seattle, WA.

In my first years in the United States, visiting Henry, Minnie and Victor during winter breaks was a heartwarming experience and a welcome break from school.

I remember having nice walks and long talks with Victor around his house in Seattle. We enjoyed several Kurosawa movies together. (I think, Seven Samurai being our shared favorite.) He was always attentive, and was a wonderful listener. It is even more impressive given I didn't have a good handle of English at that time. He took care of his parents with obvious love.

He often talked about his experience traveling around the world with the Navy. I remember vividly our discussion about a Japanese custom of hunting and eating whales - He explained his disagreement based on his experience - seen in an ocean, how magnificent of a creature whales are. I remember his passion. I remember him as a man of the world.

I miss you Vic. And the holiday family dinners with our folks.
I remember how well you took care of your mom and dad, Minnie & Henry.
And how neat and orderly you were. Often, when I pack my car's trunk I think, "Now how would Victor do this?"
