Published by Calgary Herald from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1, 2014.
BLAIR, Victoria Eleanor (Blas)
Nee YURACH
April 3, 1931 – October 20, 2014
Victoria Eleanor Blair (nee Vicky Yurach) was taken home to be with our Lord on Monday, October 20, 2014 at the age of 83 years. She was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan on April 3, 1931. Vicky was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Yurach, brothers Charlie and wife Verna, Edward and wife Ruth, sister Rose Kirkby and husband Robert, infant brother Michael at birth, brother-in-law Dick Derbowka, her husband Reverend Raymond Blair (nee Blas) and her special companion Gerald Parham. She is survived by sister Mary Froberg (Averill) and sister Patricia Derbowka. She will be missed by her children Melody Regan (Lana Grundy/Shane; Kendall Trentham/Megan; Elaina Woodruff/ David; and Sean Raymond) Marty Blas (Connor), Paula Thibodeau (Natasha, Jesse, Trinity Rae), Robert Blair (Austin, Cody) as well as eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Vicky grew up in Wynyard. She worked in the Vogue Theatre during her teen years and graduated as Valedictorian. After high school Vicky moved to Saskatoon where she took a business course at Saskatoon Business College. She got a job with Underwood McLellan and transferred to Calgary in 1955 where she met drafting engineer Raymond Blas. They were married on March 2, 1956. They raised their family there until the late 60s when they moved to Toronto so Ray could study for the Ministry. Ray's ministry with the Anglican Church took them to Carbon/Three Hills/Acme, Calgary, Midnapore, Nanton/Claresholm/Carmengay and finally to Saskatoon. Ray passed away in April,1997. Vicky then moved to Lethbridge, Willingdon (Eagle Hill Lodge), Vegreville (St. Michael's, later Heritage House where she met Gerald Parham) and later to Barrhead (Shepherd's Care) where she resided until her passing. Vicky was well respected for her participation in church activities supporting her husband. She was always there for her children supporting their needs through school and after. Sewing, crocheting, cooking and mooching around thrift and antique shops were happy pass times for her. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were as big a joy to her as she was to them. From her years in school through her life journeys until her passing we will remember Vicky's determination, strength, intelligence, and tirelessness when taking any part of her life to task, and admire the tenacity we all know she possessed right until her last days. We have lost a mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend but we rejoice and celebrate her life knowing she is at peace and no longer in pain or suffering. A Memorial for Vicky will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make donations may kindly do so to the Parkinson's Society or the Cancer Society in her name.
