Vincent DeNicola Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2008.
DeNICOLA, Vincent Vincent J. DeNicola, 65, of James Island, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday December 23, 2008. Born December 19, 1943 in Stamford CT, he was the son of the late Dominick DeNicola and Angelina Loglisi DeNicola. Vinny, known to most here in Charleston as "Pops, " was the co-founder and owner of Mom and Pop's Corner Store on Grimball Road and Mom & Pop's Pizza & Subs on Folly Road from 1993 until 2004. As a young man Vinny served proudly for his country as a military police officer during the Vietnam conflict. After the war, he served on the Stamford police force as a police officer and later worked as a detective. Later in life, he found success as a contractor building many housing developments in Connecticut and as a restaurateur and catering director. Vinny was preceded in death by his brother, Frank DeNicola; sister, Carmella Colandro and husband John Colandro; and Brother-in-law, Anthony "Babe" Vozzella. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Blefari DeNicola, sons, Vincent F. DeNicola, Michael J. DeNicola and daughter Lori DeNicola of Charleston, SC; sister, Marie Parente and husband Henry Parente; sister, Linda Vozzella; brothers, Joseph C. DeNicola and wife Marge DeNicola; brother Pat DeNicola and wife Marian DeNicola. He also had nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too many to count. He will also be sorely missed by his two pet dogs, Diesel and Niki whom he loved to no end. Family and friends are invited to pay their last respects between 3-6pm on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at MCALISTER-SMITH WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, December 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church, 56 Center St, Folly Beach, SC. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Ft. Johnson Rd, James Island, SC. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 1941 Savage Road, Charleston 29407. Condolences may be sent to the DeNicola family via www.mcalister-smith.com. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

To the family of Vinnie
I was so sad to hear about the untimely death of Vinnie. He was a great friend and a mentor when I joined the police department in Stamford. We worked together as partners for a while when I was in training. I know he will be missed by all.

All of you share a special place in my heart, for the time we spent together when Michael and I were in high school together. Much love to all of you. Dear DeNicola family,
I was so sorry to read about Vinny today. I have many fond memories from our days as neighbors on Hawthorne St. I have often talked about sitting on the front porch with Joey & Vinny & some of the other kids & being treated to that homemade pizza that their Mom made,it was the best..Time passes but wonderful childhood memories never fade away.
My sincere sympathy to all,
Judy

Denicola Family,
I was saddened to hear of POP'S death, although he has been awaiting this day patiently. I had the pleasure of working for the family for 7 years. A wonderful, loving family. I know that each one of you will grieve in your own way, but know that as time passes, the sadness will disappear and the memories will take over. Just remember all the good things and know that he will be awaiting each of you on the other side. He has only gone from your site but he will always be with you. May God give each of you the strength to carry on and the comfort of knowing he is now in a much better place. May your tears turn into smiles and your sadness be replaced with bright sunshiny days. He will still be scratching his lotto tickets and telling jokes to everyone. I love yall and will keep you in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Linda Price and family

I was very saddened to learn of Vinny's death. I will remember with fondness the times we worked together answering police calls, and the fun we had on the job. I would always ask about Vinny when I ran into family members, and regret that we couldn't keep more in touch.
To you and your family, my deepest condolences,
