Vincent Salerno Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 21, 2022.
Vincent Salerno, 76 longtime resident of Brooklyn, NY passed away on June 15, 2022 after a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Nancy Salerno, and his four children: Anthony (Maureen) of Austin, TX, Victoria (Sean Hogan) of Brooklyn, Eugene (Amy) of New Jersey, and Vincent (Angie) of Florida. He was the proud grandfather of five: Ella(19), Sophia(17), Owen(15), Alex(12), Liliana(8).

Vincent was born on February 15, 1946 in Gangi, Sicily to the late Antonio Salerno and Teresa Salvaggio. Vincent traveled to America at the age of 13 with his parents as well as his late brother Santo Salerno and sister, Victoria Salerno. They arrived in America on October 17, 1959. Vincent attended Lafayette High School and then Queen's College of the City University of New York where he studied Art History and Romance Languages. After completing his education he served honorably in the army. Shortly thereafter he married the love of his life, Nancy Salerno in 1970.

Vincent began his career at Amalgamated Bank of New York as a clerk and worked his way up to Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President. His tenure at Amalgamated Bank lasted for 39 years.

After retiring, Vincent enjoyed gardening and working on projects around the home. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his whole family and loved getting them together for holidays and a yearly trip to Disney World. He also loved walking his dog, Goofy and spending time in his summer home in Pennsylvania where he was closer to nature and further away from city life.

Vincent's visitation was at Miraglia Funeral Chapels, Inc. on Friday June 17, 2022 from 4pm - 8pm. Funeral Mass was on Saturday, June 19th at St. Mary Mother of Jesus Church and interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Vincent's name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, https://www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/tribute-program

So sorry to hear! I worked with Vinny closely at the United Federation of Teachers CFO. We talked almost daily and made investments. I remember vividly when I would tell him that the WSJ's rates were higher than Amalgamated Banks and he always responded with so invest with them! Will miss him may he RIP.
