Ida Baggetta

June 4, 2012

I must of been 10 yrs. old or younger, when Uncle Vince lived at our Franklin Ave. home.

I went across the street where they were selling X-mass trees and took a few of the branches which were trimmed off the trees that had been sold. I put them in a vase in the corner of our kitchen and decorated them with tinsils, snow-flakes and candy canes made out of paper, which i learned to do at school. My dad gave me 25 cents so I bought a set of lights, which I added to my X-mass tree and I was proud of it.

When uncle Vince came home from Manning Biscuits & noticed, he asked my mom what that was and she said it's Ida's. He looked at it shoock his head and said "that's your X-Mass tree" and I thought I did a good job.

Next day when he came home from work, he said let's make a deal. If you and Rosa carry the tree home, I will pay for it and so we walked a block down the street to Mrs. Fasca's store where the family did the weekly groceries and bought the tree. I was embarrassed carrying it home and Uncle Vince walking by our side and the tree was set up in the corner of our kitchen.

In the days that followed closer to X-mass, Santa left some gifts for us and I will never forget the pearl necklace, my gift, from guess who? (for me it was real pearls , it may not have been to-day).

I will never forget my first X-mass tree and who got it for us.
