Violet K Devlin

Violet Devlin of Newtown, Bucks County, PA passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 7, at Chandler Hall in Newtown, PA. She was 95. Born in Croatia, she came to the U.S. as a child and was raised in the Bronx, New York City. She was a resident of Bucks County for 65 years as one of the first home buyers in the newly built Levittown, PA. After many years as a homemaker, she was employed as a reference librarian at Rider University in New Jersey for over 20 years. Violet had a keen interest in helping Croatian immigrants and war victims, as well as a true devotion to her beloved Quaker religion and her place of worship. She loved reading books on spiritual topics, history and biography. She also enjoyed playing word games. She had been an avid correspondent, always staying in contact with relatives and friends near and far. She was predeceased by daughter Nancy, She is survived by son Robert and his wife Susan, grandson Shawn and wife Michelle, great granddaughters Fiona and Ruby, son Steven and his wife Karen, granddaughters Marie and Kristin, great granddaughters Emerson and Leila, also, by dear friend and Sandy Otis. Memorial contributions may be made to the service arm of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers): American Friends Service Committee, AFSC Development, 1501 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA 19102, www.afsc.org. A memorial service will be held late September, details to be announced.
