Violet Moshier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 2, 2025.
Violet (Turner) Moshier, 89, of Richfield Springs, NY, passed away peacefully October 30, 2025.

Violet, the daughter of George H. and Luella May (Bouton) Turner, was born at home on May 21, 1936, in Fork Shop, NY - in her words, "a little hick town" between Toddsville and Fly Creek.

After spending her childhood living in the Fly Creek Valley, Violet graduated from Herkimer High School in 1954 and married Ronald C. Moshier Sr. of Richfield Springs on May 8, 1954. They settled in Richfield Springs, where they raised a family of five.

Violet was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 62 years - first with Richfield Springs Arbutus Chapter No. 317 and later with Otsego-Hartwick Arbutus Chapter No. 201 - and at one time she served the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star as District Deputy Matron.

Violet was most proud of her family and flower gardens. She was happiest when every seat was filled around the kitchen and dining room tables. "Up on the hill" by her lonesome, where she practiced her faith, a flower bed was her joyous, peaceful sanctuary. With her smile and flowers in full bloom, she loved giving tours to anyone who would listen, learn and appreciate in reverence her gardens' spring and summertime glory.

Cherishing and living by the quote, "I should like to enjoy this summer flower by flower, as if it were to be the last one for me," Violet also loved working for many years with dear friends Claire and "Flower Shop Katie" as a floral designer at Mohican Florist in Cooperstown. "Planting shows a true belief in God" was another one of her favorite quotes, and she did both.

Violet is predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Ronald C. Moshier Sr.; sisters Marion Fritts, Dorothy King, Mary Frances Turner, Shirley Record and Helen Rhyde; and brothers George C. Turner and Robert Byron Turner. She is survived by a brother, Jack Turner; son Ronald (Monica) Moshier Jr. of Whitesboro; son Randy (Mary) Moshier of Richfield Springs; daughter Laurie (Tom) Smith of Richfield Springs; son Robert (Robin) Moshier of Richfield Springs; daughter Amy (George) Hula of Richfield Springs; grandchildren Thomas (Jessica) Smith, Christopher (Stephanie) Smith, Catherine (Kane) Seamon, Robert (Renee) Moshier, Roman Hula and Carson Hula; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family members would like to extend a special thanks to Valley Health Center of Herkimer, Hospice, and the Abraham House of Utica. Donations in Violet's name can be made to the Abraham House and Hospice, and should her spirit move you, plant some flowers in her memory and believe as Violet did: "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow."

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home Inc., Richfield Springs.

I am sure that none of Violet´s children remember me. I used to babysit all of you and we had some fun times. My very first job was babysitting some of you. Both our families lived in Rockwell´s Trailer Park in Ilion. Ronnie and Violet would visit my parents, Bill and Ethel, across from each other and I would go to your trailer to watch you. After you moved to Richfield Springs we still visited often . Often your parents would invite me to stay with you for a couple of weeks in the summer. Again, if your parents wanted to go out, I would stay and have fun with you kids.
There are many, many happy and fun memories of your father and mother and all of you.
I am so very sad to hear of Violet´s last days and her passing. She was such a sweet and gracious lady.
My sincerest sympathy to all of you and your extended families. I am sure you all miss her very much. Remember the great times while you had her near.
Fondly remembered, Jean Lamkey Gifford
