Virgil Dawson Obituary
He graduated from Mingo High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Virgil was President and owner of Dawson Fuel Oil Co. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
On December 27, 1941 he married the love of his life, Jessie Louise Houston Dawson, who preceded him in death on April 18, 2012. They had a beautiful marriage for 70 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lessie D. Williford, Loretha D. Smith; brothers, Irvin Dawson, William "Bill" Dawson, Doyle Dawson and a great granddaughter, Mackenzie Lynn Dawson.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Faye Luney and husband Derek of Hickory; three sons, Jerry Wayne Dawson and wife Grace of Hartwell, GA, Ronnie Dawson of High Point, Donald "Donnie" Dawson and wife Barbara of Greensboro; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The Dawson family expresses their appreciation to Tricia Sawyer McMasters along with her team members of Heaven Sent Private Care for the love and care given to Virgil over the years.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Guilford Memorial Park conducted by Hospice Chaplain Chris Morris.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Virgil's name be directed to "Hope for Tomorrow" 5710K West Gate City Blvd. #255, Greensboro, NC 27407

Sandy, Donnie, Jerry and Ronnie: It is with extreme sadness that we express our condolence in the loss of your father. We have been next door neighbors and "family" for nearly 18 years and we will forever miss the kindness that he and his deceased wife expressed to our family. Sandy , Donnie , Ronnie and Jerry. I am so sorry about your lost . Your Dad and Mom were both so special. I am so sorry that I am unable to attend the service tomorrow. You are all in my prayers for Jesus to comfort you in this time of sorrow. So many fond memories flow from our childhood at St Andrews and family visits to your home.
