My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. As a young USAFAC finance soldier in the mid 1980s, I served as his backup driver, and drove him to and from the Indianapolis airport many times after picking him up at his quarters for trips to Wash DC. I always found him to be a pleasant person and it was always a pleasure to drive and converse with him.

From a colleague at DFAS,

You were Deputy Director when I first hired on in 1987 as a young auditor with USAFAC. I will remember you as tough, fair, and personable. You will be missed and remembered for your honesty and decency. It was an honor to serve with you.

From a fellow Finance Retiree...many thoughts and prayers to this man that seems to have made a huge impact on life and the people in it. I never met him. I came in Army as he was retiring, but he sounds like someone i would have like to have gotten to known. R. I.P.

Reading the obituary, listening to a friend share a story regarding his experience in serving with the Brigadier General and seeing the loving support that surrounded David & family, was beautiful demonstration of what a well respected and special person Virgil was. Hoping many happy memories bring you all comfort.

Virgil was an exceptional man of honor and courage that never shied away from doing what was right. I spent many years getting to know him through Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival. He had a quick wit and a warm heart. He will be sorely missed.
