Virginia Birckbichler Obituary

Virginia M. Birckbichler, 94, of Butler died Thursday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
Born Aug. 28, 1924, in Summit Township, Butler County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph B. Weiland and Florence M. (Eyth) Weiland.
She attended St. Wendelin School and Mount Alvernia Academy, graduating in 1942. She also graduated from Miami Jacobs Business College in Dayton, Ohio, and began working for Air Services Command, Patterson Field in Fairfield, Ohio.
In 1945, she was transferred to Deshon General Hospital in Butler. She worked there until 1947. From 1969 until 1986, she worked for the Butler County Assistance Office as a caseworker.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic lay minister.
She was a 50-plus member of the Butler Moose Chapter 260 and had served the state of Pennsylvania as deputy grand regent and served on the International Board of Academy of Friendship. She also served as regent of the Catholic Daughters of America Butler Court 443 for three terms, also serving as a president of Butler County Deanery Council of Catholic Women.
She had been a volunteer for the Butler Hospital Auxiliary and the Butler Veterans Hospital.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bowling, golfing, playing cards and bingo.
Surviving are her son, Roy F. Birckbichler of Charlotte, N.C.; her daughter, Rosemary Mason of Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Weiland, Robert Weiland and Francis Weiland, all of Butler; one sister, Madeline "Sis" Neff of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Birckbichler, whom she married May 1, 1946, and who died March 19, 2006; two sons, Thomas and Richard Birckbichler; three brothers, Thomas, Leo and David Weiland; and one sister, Joan Gibbs.
BIRCKBICHLER - Friends of Virginia M. Birckbichler, who died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Matt McClain will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Wendelin's Cemetery.
