Winston-Salem, NC – Mrs. Virginia Ruth Koford, 88, died in hospice with family by her side on Friday, January 27th. Virginia, also known as Ginny by her friends, was born September 23, 1934 in
Erie, Pennsylvania to Kenneth and Mable Brown. Ginny met her husband, John Lowell Koford at Penn State Behrend College. She worked in pubic relations of the General Telephone Company. John and Ginny were married on September 24, 1955 and had a beautiful life together until John's passing in 2020. John and Ginny raised their family in
North East, Pennsylvania and that is where they have cherished memories with life long friends. Ginny was dedicated to raising her children and loved to have cookies ready for the neighborhood kids after school. Her other passion was sewing and she was an avid quilter. She participated in quilting competitions at the fair and loved to make them for her family and friends. In 1991 John and Ginny relocated to Winston-Salem, NC and it is there that they resided until their passing.
Proceeded in death by her parents Kenneth and Mable Brown; brother Reverend Donn Brown and husband John Lowell Koford. Surviving are her children. Sons Jack Koford and wife Gayle of Buffalo New York; James Koford of Winston-Salem; Jeff Koford of
Austin, Texas; daughter Susan Gantt and husband Matthew of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and her brother Dr. Kenny Brown.
A celebration of life will be held at the New Harvest Restaurant and Pub. 11019 Sidehill Road,
North East, Pennsylvania on May 12, 2023 from 2pm-5pm. Her family will be there to greet friends.
