John T. Carr WINDSOR - John Thomas Carr, 71, passed away Jan. 28, 2011. He was born the youngest of nine children in Colosse, the son of the late Mary T. and George W. Carr. John served in the National Guard. He retired after 40 years in sheet finishing from Union Camp/International Paper. He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church where he attended the Adult Sunday School Class and served on numerous committees. After his retirement he loved being on the farm, gardening and giving to the community; and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Glenda Bracey Carr of Windsor; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie C. and Brian D. Atwood of Portsmouth; grandchildren and apples of his eye, Johnna Carr Atwood and Coleman Daniel Atwood; sisters, Betty Presson of Carrsville, Va., Helen Holland (Bruce) of Suffolk; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at Colosse Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, and other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the Colosse Baptist Church cemetery fund at 6361 Rhodes Drive, Windsor, VA 23487 or the Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 636, Windsor, VA 23487.
