Virginia (Ginny) Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 6 to Jul. 7, 2022.
Virginia Murphy, 94, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022. Virginia was born on July 29, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Helen and Thomas Gevin. Virginia worked in her early years as an Office Administrator for The Brooklyn Telephone Company. After she married her husband Jim, they lived on naval bases in Maryland, Virginia, Rhode Island, and Maine raising their 4 children. When Jim retired from the Navy they moved to Glastonbury, CT where she had her own business as a daycare provider in her home for over 15 years. She was also a Cub Scout and a Girl Scout leader. In 1991 Virginia and Jim moved to Sebastian, Florida where they lived for approximately 26 years, vacationing often to Aruba and going on many cruises. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before Jim's passing. She then moved back to Glastonbury in 2017.

Virginia was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was extremely kindhearted, loving, and caring. She always thought of others before herself. She opened her heart to many over the years. Ginny loved to laugh and was always wearing a smile on her face. Her gentleness brought so much joy to our family. She enjoyed many unforgettable years going on vacations and celebrating holidays, weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays with her family. She was a very faithful woman who always prayed and attended mass. The simple pleasures in life brought great joy to Ginny including reading a good novel, baking her special Congo bars, playing cards, visiting friends, going for walks, and spending time with her family. We were blessed to have her in our lives for so many years. She will continue to be loved and will be held in our hearts forever.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband Jim (Al), her sister Helen, and her daughter Susan. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Bonanno and her husband John of MA, her son James Jr. and his wife Ruth of Glastonbury CT, and her son Thomas and his wife Gloria of MD. She is also leaving behind 5 grandchildren (Jonathon, Christopher, Tiffany, Alexander, and Jenna) and 4 great grandchildren (Dillan, Annabelle, Maxwell, and Tamya) who she loved beyond belief.

To her caretakers, Caitlin, Linda, Lorraine, and Dianne, your compassion illuminated brightly when you cared for Ginny. Thank you for all your assistance, comfort, and support. We are very grateful and appreciative. Also special thanks to the doctors and nurses on the Middlesex Hospital palliative care floor who took such great care of Virginia during her last days.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road in Glastonbury CT. Family and friends are welcome to arrive at 10:00 am to the church to pay their respects. The mass will begin at 11:00 am followed by the burial at Neipsic Cemetery, 1341 Neipsic Road in East Glastonbury. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
