Vonnie Oakes

Vonnie Oakes, 85, Nancy, Ky., passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.She was born on Dec. 20, 1923, in Jabez, Ky., the daughter of the late Elmor and Maudie Anderson Bolin. She was a homemaker and member of the Bogletown Pentecostal Church of God in Somerset. She enjoyed church, singing, family and gardening. Mrs. Oakes loved people. Mrs. Oakes is survived by two sons, Wendell (and Anna) Oakes, Nancy, Ky., and Dorman (and Patricia) Oakes, Science Hill, Ky.; three daughters, Linda (and Dee) Weddle, Nancy, Ky., Marilyn Harris, Somerset and Carmoletta (and Gary) Baldock, Somerset; two brothers, Vernon (and Gerdeline) Bolin, Nancy, Ky., and J.C. (and Sue) Bolin, Nancy, Ky.; two sisters, Darlene Hudson and Dollie Owens, both of Somerset; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Lisa Oakes, Nancy, Ky., and Lovena Oakes, Somerset.Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Earlin Oakes, whom she married on July 24, 1946, in Russell County, Ky.; two sons, Arnold Oakes and Jimmy Oakes; two brothers, Hobert Bolin and Oval Bolin; and three sisters, Roxie Carter, Flossie Carrender and Marilyn Dean Wilson.Visitation for Mrs. Oakes will be Monday, Feb. 2 after 6 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Harvey Antel and Bro.
