Thomas "Tom" Muchow, 85, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Dougherty Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 20, 1937, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Willis and Irene Muchow. Tom was confirmed at Memorial Lutheran Church in 1952. He graduated from Washington High School in 1956 and served in the Air National Guard following graduation from August 1956 through April 1961. Tom was an active member of the Sioux Falls Jaycees. He started working for John Morrell & Company in 1957 until his retirement in 1999. He loved to downhill ski, sail his Hobie Cat, and travel on long road trips with his motorcycle.
Tom met Mary Bentley in December 1974. They married on June 7, 1975. Tom was a long-time active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He served as an elder, an usher, and was a long-time choir member. Tom enjoyed spending the summers camping with his family and being on the golf course.
He took pleasure in barebow target archery and refurbishing wood furniture. After retirement, he loved spending more time with his family and grandchildren. A few of his favorite activities with his grandchildren included painting, woodworking, and sculpture walking.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Mary; children, Shawn Muchow, Shannon Oddy, and Kyle (Stephanie) Muchow; daughter-in-law, Monica Muchow; grandchildren, Erika, Tori, Alex, Hayley, Brody, and Brayden; sisters Karen (Jim) Christian, Gretchen Bamsey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his son, Travis, parents, and brother, Jerry.
A celebration of life service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. South Dakota on Saturday, March 4 2023, at 10:00am. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Sioux Falls Lutheran School.

I got to know Tom over many years at my dental office. He always started interesting conversations regarding just about anything. He’s one of the people I missed when I retired. Thinking of Tom’s family as you remember and celebrate his life.
