Wallace Carr Burgoyne

Wallace Carr Burgoyne, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 86 in Houston, TX surrounded by family. Born in Washington, D.C. on September 18, 1939, Carr lived a life filled with devotion to family, deep friendships, curiosity, craftsmanship, and joyful storytelling.

Carr cherished his large family more than anything. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Dawn, and his five children, Kristina, Pam, Carr Jr. (and his wife Wendy), Drew (and his wife Lyndsay), and David (and his wife Camille), along with ten grandchildren who brought him endless pride and happiness. He never missed a chance to share how proud he was of each of them. He was the steady center of the family, always ready with encouragement, humor, and warmth.

Some of Carr's fondest memories came from his early summers as a boy in Maine that sparked a lifelong love for Boothbay Harbor and sailing Linekin Bay in his 25-foot Rainbow. Though he lived primarily in Houston, Maine was always his touchstone.

A proud American, Carr served honorably in the United States Army. His time in the service shaped his deep sense of discipline, responsibility, and gratitude for the freedoms he cherished throughout his life. He remained steadfastly devoted to his country, carrying genuine respect for those who served before and after him.

Carr also had a deep and lasting love for Boy Scouts, especially Troop 55. Scouting gave him the chance to share adventure, challenge, and camaraderie with his sons and with the men who became lifelong friends. Together, they hiked the rugged trails of Philmont in New Mexico, sailed from Islamorada to Key West in Florida, and canoed the wild, beautiful Allagash in Maine.

Carr built a 60+ year career as a stockbroker and financial advisor, a profession he embraced with true enthusiasm. He watched the markets closely up until the very end, always eager to share a thought on a stock or trend with anyone willing to listen. His intellectual curiosity never slowed.

His friendships spanned states and generations, stretching from Texas to Maine. As he felt the loss of friends who passed before him, he found deep comfort and fellowship in the community at The Church of St. John the Divine. The people and clergy there held a special place in his heart.

Carr especially treasured his Thursday morning breakfasts at Avalon Diner shared with a close-knit group of men. He also loved the camaraderie of fellow parishioners who gathered for donuts in Sumners Hall after the 8 a.m. service. These communities meant the world to him and he cherished every friendship and every shared moment.

At home, Carr loved to cook, especially experimenting with recipes he found in The Wall Street Journal or any other publication that had an interesting new dish for him to try. His specialties include barbecuing brisket and ribs. He was never afraid to improvise, even if the results were sometimes questionable, and he took joy in the process of trying something new. His true hobby, though, was homebuilding and home improvement. Whether adding a washroom or porch to the house in Boothbay Harbor or designing and constructing the family home in Houston, Carr approached every project with creativity, care, and pride.

Carr was also an avid reader with a deep love of history. He was a longtime member of the Del Monte book club in Houston and a book club Maine, where he enjoyed lively discussions and discovering new authors. His appreciation for American stories and historical events inspired many family road trips, often planned around visits to historical parks, battlefields, museums, and the small towns that brought the past to life. These journeys became cherished family memories and reflected his belief that history was something to be experienced, not just studied.

Carr will be remembered for his generosity, his humor, his craftsmanship, his love of the water, and his unwavering devotion to the people he loved. His presence will be profoundly missed, but the places he shaped and the family and friends he nurtured will carry forward his spirit.

A service celebrating Carr's life will be held at The Church of St. John the Divine on Thursday December 18, 2025, at 3pm.
