Wallace Dohman Obituary

Wallace Frank Dohman

Age 95, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023. Wally was born in Lester Prairie, MN on May 20, 1928 to Frank S. Dohman and Lydia (Klatt) Dohman. He was baptized in 1928 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and later confirmed in the same church in 1942. Wally is survived by his two sons, Patrick Wallace Dohman and Lance Wallace Dohman and two grandchildren Helena Victoria Dohman and Felix Leopold Dohman.

Preceding Wally in death were his elder siblings Gloria Martha Elizabeth Dohman Mathews who passed away September 20, 1983 and his two brothers Glover Hugo Dohman, and Waldo Martin Dohman who passed on October 25, 2020 and March 3, 2023 respectively. Wally's passing brings to light the huge legacy the four children of Frank and Lydia gave to the world. They served their country, served the public as protectors and teachers, nurtured many generations of children into the world, and served God throughout their lives.

Wally was a lifelong educator who loved to read and write short stories and poetry. His favorite subject to teach were composition, literature, prose & poetry, and The Bible as literature which opened many minds to both faith and history. Wally was valedictorian of his high school class and earned a B.S. from Winona State College and an M.A. from the University of Minnesota. Wally also attended the University of Oregon Teachers College and Columbia University in New York while pursuing a Ph.D. in English. He received many letters from former students -sometimes many years after graduation- describing how his courses and discussions sparked a flame for learning. In 1992, after four decades of teaching college, he retired from Copper Mountain College and returned to the Minneapolis area to be closer to friends and family. Upon his retirement, Wally was recognized as "The instructor who had the most influence on student success" by his students and peers.

Wally will be returned to his hometown in Lester Prairie to be buried with his mother & father and the many Klatt, Dohman and Mathews family members at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery. A graveside service is planned for his internment. Please contact [email protected] for remembrances and further details.
