Walliegene Carranza Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 20, 2025.
One of the most generous and giving souls in the world, that of Walliegene Carranza, was received by her Maker on 18 January 2025. Walliegene, "Walli" to her friends, accomplished so much in her 66 years. She was a nurse, wife, mother, midwife, educator, rabbi, rescue worker, and chaplain to three police departments before cancer ended her service.

Walli was born in Williamsville, NY, in 1959 and attended ballet studies in New York City. She attended nursing school in Houston, TX, where she met and married Henry Carranza. They started their family while she worked as a nurse/midwife in Texas. She later received her PhD in Nursing Education. She moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1996, to work in healthcare education and health coaching. In 2017 she was ordained a rabbi and founded the ALEPH congregation while serving as a chaplain in the local police department. In 2020 she went to Auch, France, to serve as rabbi, working closely with the local imam and the Catholic priest in an ecumenically shared cathedral. She also served in the International Rescue Organization with her beloved King Shepard, Leilah. She continued to deliver babies both in Ukraine and in Egypt. Her last position was as associate dean of a medical school in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. She passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs with many of her children, grandchildren, and friends attending.

Walliegene was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Genevieve Deth (Smith), her husband, Henry Carranza, and their son, Luke Carranza. She is survived by her children, Genevieve (Parris) and her husband, Jonathan, her son, Enrique, her daughter, Gabrielle, and daughter, Graciella (Graham) and her husband, Levi, and her six beloved grandchildren, Kai, Evie, Kiara, Aaliyah, and Jaxon, and Samuel.

Walli was the last member of my family. Now I am the only one left. Her parents passed, her two oldest brothers passed. Although we did not see things the same I wish her rest in eternal sleep.

Her unwavering struggle with Cancer never took away her spirit to help others no matter what. She gave it her all here on this earth and I will always remember the long conversations we had since 2011 through until she moved away from France. Her friendship endures "forever". See you on the other side Sister Healer. Namaste!

I was very saddened to learn of Walli's passing. My wife and I knew Walli when I was stationed in Colorado Springs in the early 2000s. While we never saw Walli again after returning to Canada, we kept in touch over the years. Walli's message of condolence when my wife passed away was the most heartfelt and thoughtful that I received, and speaks to her character. To quote a small part of Walli's message: "Life will never be the same; how can it be? But life will go on and it will not always hurt this way. She wanted you all to live on and so you will. You loved her......the only gift that matters between human beings."

My deepest condolences to Walli's family and friends at this difficult time.

Even though I didn´t know Walli in person, I heard only best things and the warmest words from my brother Greg and his wife Oksana. God bless your family in this time of sorrow, Walli.

Dear Wallie, rest in peace! You did so much for so many. You seemed like you lived about 4 or 5 lifetimes, all at once! I only met you one time, long ago in Colorado Springs, at a party. You were friendly and generous. Later, I followed your life, adventures, and missions on Facebook. I know that you had not yet completed everything that you wanted to do, but you left a towering image for how the rest of us should proceed. Your memory is a blessing, and you are a role model for many of us.

Wallie always had time to talk. She offered love and support and more importantly, she offered straight talk woven with compassion. I will miss our conversations and her authentic friendship. Rest well Rabbi. Your memory will always be a blessing

Walli became my friend a few years back. From our first meeting it was as if we had known each other for years. She never met a stranger. She was a kind and giving woman. Passionate about any project she took on. She loved her children and grand children and her pets, Leilah and Ben with her whole heart. There wasn't a time I was around her where she didn't talk about her love for them and the gift they brought to her life.

She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing for all those that knew and loved her.

What a tremendous presence Walli had. She was definitely a 'jack of all trades'. She has made such a indescribable impact on so many people's lives.
She is most remembered for being in the hospital with my family for the birth of my daughter. I remember her telling everyone in the room how the moonlight was shining down on me and how serene it was. She has helped me many times over the years, and I will always appreciate everything.
She will forever be missed.

Attending the Harlem Theater of Dance production in Buffalo. Our second date , a double with her parents. She was stunning both in appearance and presence. She remained both for all her life, lovely and stunning in her intellect, compassion and acceptance of people who held different views. I remember her telling me at the time that " It was easier to tell my parents you were Catholic than to tell them you are a conservative so I told them you were Catholic". God rest her well and may her memory be a blessing as it will be for me.
