I worked for Wally back in 2010 and he was always a kind, approachable individual who cared about his employees just as much as his business.

All I heard was his name. And knew he was a Minnesota icon!

Walley was one of the nicest people I ever worked for, I find myself writing too many of these lately. I always looked forward to my day at work at the old lindahl Oldsmobile. Between Walley, and Terry Feldmann who I regret I was still on active duty, and wasn't able to pay my respects to when he passed, were two wonderful people. I still reminisce fondly of my days at lindahl from 1980-1984. Being I just heard of wallets passing, huggs to all the family members. If you don't recognize my name, they called me HERMAN MUNSTER because my first day working there I showed up for work driving a little Opel GT, and I am 6'3" and someone said I looked like Herman Munster getting out of that little car, and so the nickname stuck, having an off the wall sense of humor, I didn't mind, it was fun. Saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Wally. My mother, Arlys, was his sister. Some of my earliest memories are of him. Those were the days of visiting family on Sunday afternoons, so I have so many wonderful memories of being with him and my cousins.
I remember the day he took my family to see his first dealership. Little did we know of the great success he was to achieve. I have always been very proud of his many accomplishments.
Two special memories: Uncle Wally teaching me to water ski and giving me World Series tickets when the Twins made it!
Uncle Wally was a loving and compassionate man. He was very generous and supportive to my parents. He was always there for them in what ever way was needed. He was there for me when my father, mother, and brother died. I will always remember those special acts of kindness.
Uncle Wally, you are loved, will be missed, and never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Wally was one of the remaining great owners, like Hess Kline, Jack Walser, Jim Lupient, Rudy Luther, and the Grossman family who really cared for their customers and employees like family. Wally has helped train many of the great dealers of his time.

Six years ago I met Wally McCarthy on the putting green at Indian Ridge Country Club in Palm Desert, California. After a short conversation, we discovered we had something in common: a passion for fishing. The rest is history. We became the best of friends. When Wally and Joanna were in the desert, my wife and I loved spending time with them, many times over a great meal. Of course, Wally demanded on picking up the bill and you didn't dare argue with him. That was Wally McCarthy.
When I would visit Wally at his desert home, we would chat about fishing, current events, but mostly about many of the incredible experiences this man had in his life. I was in awe. What a life, what a man, what a legacy.
Wally will always be loved, never forgotten, and forever missed. The sign reads 'Gone Fishing'
Rest in peace my friend.

We knew Wally for several years. We were honored to do some work for him and his family members. He will always be remembered for his kindness and his love for life. He lived life to the fullest, but he never forgot the little people who made him a big man with a big heart.

I had the great opportunity to work for Wally for 5 years. I could listen to his stories for hours. He was a great man and a legend in the car business. My favorite times were, when I was doing live radio on WCCO, to walk in his office and put him on the air! What a great showman, he never ceased to amaze me. Rest in peace Mr. McCarthy. You truly will be missed by all.

Wally had a natural compassion for people. As an employee I was on the receiving end of his compassion which was given without fanfare. Rest in Peace, Wally, you will be missed.

Our Sympathy to your Family. Lowell was a Lodge Brother with Wally and bought many Oldsmobiles from Him. Candy lived two houses from us on Portland Avenue, St. Paul Park. Lowell is in the Memory Unit at Norris Square in Cottage Grove, he has short term memory, but always talks about Wally.
