He was our neighbor in Copper Canyon and his son Marty and I went to Marcus High School together. Mr. Garrison would dine with his local cowboy ranchers at the popular greasy spoon Evelyn´s Cafe in Argyle every Saturday morning like clockwork. I would see him at the center table with his buddies when I´d join my grandfather there. I would say "Hi" to him often and remembered he had a worn Skoal circle on his jeans back pocket. I passed him often in his Skoal truck. Back when I knew him, he built a home on top of his barn just around the corner from my grandparents estate. We all loved Walt Garrison & he sure did love Texas, being a REAL LIFE cowboy, and of course a Dallas Cowboy legend with Tom Landry as his coach. He wrestled bulls in his spare time and played like a bull on the football field. From Denton, TX and attended Lewisville High School "Fighting Farmers" & was an OSU Cowboy too...I see a theme here...

Walt was a down to earth, authentic man who kids could look up to. We need more people in sports today like him. RIP Mr. Garrison

I was 8 years old when my dad a real Texas cowboy introduced me and my 2 younger brothers to watching the Cowboys. Walt being a real cowboy was our favorite player. Wish we all could´ve met him in person. I´ve read his book Once A Cowboy and reading it now for the 2nd time. May he rest in peace!

I never met Walt Garrison, however, he is my 1st cousin 1 times removed. I became a Cowboys fan because of him. Watched all his games. I lived in California and never got to make it to family reunions when my parents went to Texas.
I remember Walt called my dad to let him know that his (my dad's) sister had passed away, My dad talked about Walt all the time, we all were all so proud of him and all he was able to accomplish in his lifetime. Whenever, football becomes a topic of conversation I still proudly let people know Walt is my cousin.
I just happened to be doing family history when I came upon his obituary about 10 minutes ago. I am so sad I never got to meet him.

To me me he was truly bigger than life. Because of him I rodeoed and played football. RIP Walt

Walt Garrison is a big reason my family are Dallas Cowboy fans. My Dad showed quarter horses in the 60s and met Walt at a horse show/rodeo. They talked different times and you would have never known Walt was a NFL star. My Dad was from the Fort Wayne, Indiana area but the Colts were still in Baltimore. Well, a cowboy who was treated really well by another cowboy, who happened to play for the Dallas Cowboys made us Cowboy fans for life! Years later when I was teaching and coaching my mentor actually went to college with Walt at Oklahoma State and had a few classes with him. She said he is just how he comes across. Genuine, friendly, unassuming... The Real Deal. Losing Walt reminded me of my Dad and all the good times I had watching the Cowboys, and listening to my Dad's horse stories. I believe Walt was a man's man and cowboy's cowboy. Just like my Dad. There is no better compliment. So thank you Walt for the great memories and for how you treated everyone, especially my Dad.

My first cousin. My dad was Walt´s Uncle Jeff. we lived in Denver, but got to Texas whenever we could. My Dad was so very proud of his nephews and nieces and never let us forget where we came from. My love and condolences to my Texas cousins and family.

He never let being famous go to his head. His family was located across the street from my Grandmother. She collected post cards and asked him to send them to her from where-ever the Cowboys sent him. With all he had on his plate at the time he did this. He will be missed.

I am very bless to have known Walt. I worked in his "Snuff Shop" office for UST in Lewisville, TX and I have many wonderful memories of our travels, meeting, and best of all,,, the Christmas Parties. Prior to arriving to his office, I truly did not know much of the Western Lifestyle but I quickly learned to love it because he, and the team, treated me with respect and lots of understanding. I recall making Walt laugh on the 1ts day because I informed him that I had absolutely no idea who Ernest Tubb was, he loved his old Country & Western and he had to start with the very basics with me. Thank you Walt for the great times and you will be greatly missed.

I'm just a football fan who followed Walts career. I grew up in Baltimore with Unitas and company. Walt was the epitomy of what football used to be and I miss the glory days. Rest in peace Cowboy.

I have lived with multiple sclerosis for decades and was an active volunteer, serving on the Board of the North Texas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society during the Walt Garrison Rodeo years. Walt was so kind, seeing beyond my various disabilities to developing a relaxed casual friendship and swapping rodeo stories, as I bent barrels as a teen. We shared private jokes between us. That´s what friends do. I will always be thankful for Walt Garrison, my favorite Cowboy cowboy.

My condolences goes out to the Garrison family. I got to work with Walt when he was a resident at the place where I worked. I really enjoyed going into his room getting him to come out for meals and sometimes just sitting talking with him. I will miss his smile and seeing him in his cowboy hat. I loved working with him. May he rest in peace. I will cherish the moments I spent with him. He will live forever in my heart.

Walt Garrison will always be one of my all-time favorite athletes, and characters. His humor, wit, and upbeat down-home attitude has always has put a smile on my face, and he was also the epitome of toughness and greatness on the football field and as a true cowboy.

Walt Garrison was my absolute favorite Dallas Cowboy. I lived in Juneau, Alaska many years and Walt visited a friend of mine. Too bad for me, I need not meet Walt on that trip and missed out. Walt was my wife's favorite player also. He was tough, gritty and I hear he was a obviously a funny. Rest in Peace, Walt and I will say a special prayer for you tonight.
