My condolences. Walter was in my wedding and we used to call each other buzzards from the Bugs Bunny cartoon. We smoked cigars together and had many laughs and good times. I will miss him dearly

Walter and I were in the same class at UNC Chapel Hill and were friends. Walter's famous shot to defeat Duke and other amazing exploits helped make our Class of '77 quite noteworthy at UNC. After graduation, I attended law school at Columbia University in New York City while Walter joined the Phoenix Suns as a top draft pick and later NBA Rookie of the Year. When Phoenix played the Knicks at the Garden in NYC, I would go to the games to watch Walter play, and, in those days where security wasn't what it is today, I could go down on the court and actually talk to Walter during warmup before the game! Despite being such an elite and award-winning athlete, he was always so down-to-earth, modest, genuine, and friendly -- a truly great ambassador for the game and our alma mater!

I was privileged to be in attendance when "Sweet D" hit that 25 footer to send game into overtime ! What stands out most to me was how often on Sundays as I waited for my ride to pick me up to go to St Paul AME Church, Walter would be in the dorm lobby waiting to go to the Baptist church! May God continue to bless the Davis family. Tarheel for life.

I played one high school season with Walter when he prepped a year in Delaware before he went on to UNC. The best quote I read about him from a former coach was that Walter had no ego as an athlete; he was all about team and winning. That perfectly described him. He was the best player I ever saw and he was a regular nice guy and teammate. I went to a game his rookie NBA season, went court-side during warmups - he immediately smiled and recognized me 4 years later, talked with me for several minutes like an old friend. Later that season, I watched him score 36 points against Julius Erving in Philly. I am sorry that he had to pass on so young - it was a lifetime privilege to have known him and played alongside him.

My condolences to Walter´s family. I remember when I first met Walter in 7th grade basketballs tryouts at Quail Hollow Junior High school. I got to play with him for three years. He had an infectious smile and laugh. At that time we nicknamed him `grasshopper´ because he could jump so high. Those times were so much fun and I pray for the family during these difficult times.

I will never forget MR Walter. As his personal driver when he came home to visit his brother and family we had some great memories. My heart is sad. The humbleness man I ever drove.
