Where do you start when remembering someone as special in our lives as Walter Duncan. Two country bumpkins from small town Oklahoma without anything but dreams, polyester slacks ( size 28..currently38) and a couple of Izod shirts, Susan and I hold a world of wonderful memories as a result of the kindness, generosity, professional support, and personal friendship shared in our lives by Walter Duncan and his beautiful Allie.
It brings a smile to my face when thinking about Walter walking his dog around Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club throwing the chew toy for retrieving practice, and the many 7:30 AM lessons given from the tenth fairway behind Walters residence at the time.... The only place on the golf course we had enough room to work on Walters driver without fear of hitting a house due to the fact we had two fairways to work with....10 and 14.....Figured any where we had enough room to land a 747 was wide enough for Walter to launch one of his prodigious drives and bring it back to earth in the same zip code. Never wanted to work on his short game, just his driver......And was never concerned about accuracy just distance.
The trip to Augusta National for The Masters where Allie, my wife Susan and Linda Colliatie walked across the street to get Tom Weiskoff's autograph on the day he made 7 on # 12 to miss the cut by one. What courage!
Football games ( OU and The Patriots)...Always fun to go with Walter as he was the only person there that could actually "park" on the 50 yard line ....Holiday parties, generous support and all the good times at OakTree, 1984 US Amatuer Championship, 1988 PGA Championship.....Could go on and on but having a little trouble seeing the keyboard.
Walter.....We will always love you and miss you dearly...........Thank you so much my friend for making our lives better than we could have ever imagined.
God Bless you and please have him help you with your driver.....After all He is the "best"!
