QUEENSBURY --- Walter H. Eichler, 98, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 after a brief illness at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born in Astoria, New York on May 11, 1919, he was the son of Walter and Helen (Brinkman) Eichler.
Walter studied Civil Engineering at New York University.
He served in the Army Corp of Engineers as a Captain in the Pacific Theatre from 1941 to 1945.
In high school, Walter met Muriel Crosbie, who he then married on January 16, 1943. They spent 67 wonderful years together. They moved to the Lake George area in June of 1965 when Walter purchased the Ford Dealership in Warrensburg.
Walter was the owner of Eichler Ford in Warrensburg for many years, and during his free time, he enjoyed boating, shooting, and woodworking. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
Walter was a member and officer of VFW Haskell Brothers Post No. 4821, Warrensburg Kiwanis Club, Warren County Cooperative Extension Board, and Dunham’s Bay Rod and Gun Club. During his retirement, he worked tirelessly to support these service organizations.
In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his wife, Muriel C. Eichler; and his sister, Muriel Lord.
Those left to cherish his memory are five children, Jane Clark (Kevin) of New Jersey, Larry Eichler (Fran) of Lake George, Bill Eichler (Andrea) of Queensbury, Lee Rossetter (Steve) of Connecticut, and Barbara Mason (Dave) of Georgia; 12 grandchildren, Patrick Schunke, Jill Pami, David Schunke, Heather Hickland, Karen Eichler, Steve Eichler, Stacey Langford, Michael Rossetter, Ryan Rossetter, Chris Rossetter, Meaghan Hagewood, Matthew Mason and 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will take place Friday, July 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
A brief memorial service with military honors will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of The Terrace at The Glen at Hiland Meadows.
