Margaret - your dad's memory will live on in many more exalted circles, but for my bridge buddies and me he will be remembered as a passionate bridge lover and a patient teacher of bridge. His name always comes up when we get together - WWWD (What would Walter do?) is our motto! He was such a fine man - we all feel privileged to have known him.

Our deepest sympathies Margaret. We never knew your dad; but we wish you God's comfort in the saddened days ahead.

The passing of Walter Harris certainly is a loss for the many who have benefitted from his humanity, his wisdom, the example of his humility and his patient leadership.
I will forever be thankfull to him for having taken me on, and giving me an easing-in assignment, when I first arrived in Canada as a TA in Chem 312 despite my atrocious command of English.
Dr. Harris' greatest legacy is a much-admired Chemistry Department, a legacy documented so well in “Chemistry Department, History and a Memoir 1909-2003” that he authored in his characteristic no-nonsense-fact-based style when he was well in his eighties.
Our condolences go out to his family.

Dr. Harris was the Chemisty Professor whom I admired the most. As a WWII veteran who needed lots of help, he held his hand out to me and others many times. I shall never forget him.

Family of Walter Harris
Walter was my mentor and thesis advisor for my MSc in 1951. It was my honor to exchange correspondence with him for many years up to last December. He was a most outstanding scientist and exemplary citizen. We stand in awe of his contributions over a long and productive life. We honor his life and shall miss him forever

Family of Walter Harris-What an amazing citizen scientist Walter was! Inspirational in his support of his profession, philanthropy and commitment to teaching, he has left his immortal mark on the department of chemistry at the University of Alberta. We will only be poorer for his loss if we forget who he was and what he valued. He made sure we would never forget.

Family of Walter Harris --
In my years as a U of A Professor, Walter was most respected and a great mentor. I always admired that he was another small town fellow who made good. In my years as VP for U of A, Walter was immensely helpful in his role as a PACCR member -- always listening, always fair, and reported wisdom cradled with facts. Kindest condolences, Allan Warrack
