Walter Hochbrueckner Obituary

SOUTH KORTRIGHT _ Walter J. Hochbrueckner, 87, of South Kortright, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, peacefully at his home, with his family and a Catskill Area Hospice aide at his side.
He was born in Manhattan on June 19, 1921, the son of Martin and Johanna (Schilling) Hochbrueckner.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, and sons, Thomas and James.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945 and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Goehring, June 22, 1947, in Queens. He worked as an installation foreman for New York Telephone Company in Queens for 29 years until he retired to his hillside home in South Kortright.
He is survived by his brother, Richard, of Hicksville; and six children, daughter Kathleen (Steve) Moltzen of Harriman, and sons, Michael (Fran) of Seaford, Joseph (Melody) of Harpersfield, Walter (Kim) of Mineola, David (Becky) of Springfield, Va., and Kevin (Mellissa) of Cooperstown. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 and Monday, Oct. 13, at the Hall-Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Pastor Joseph X. Arockiasamy at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall-Tari Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.
