WALTER MORRISON II Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 16 to May 16, 2010.
Walter (Walt), Frederick Morrison, II, 88 yrs old, entered into eternity on April 7, 2010. We rejoice that he is now whole in body, mind, and spirit and present with his Lord Jesus Christ. He died from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

Walt was born in Belvidere, Nebraska, on April 4, 1922, to Chloe (Dill) and Walter Frederick (Fred) Morrison. He joined two doting older sisters, Mildred (13 yrs.) and Marion (11 yrs.) at home. Happy memories were made at the Belvidere High School through sports, friendships, and practical jokes, graduating in 1939. He then attended the University of Nebraska where he studied business administration graduating in 1943.

Following his ROTC days in college he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, European Theater, 13th Armored Div., in WW II. While in the army, he met the love of his life, Leila Allen, who was serving as a nurse in the U. S. Army. Because her unit provided emergency medical care to Walt's unit, Walt would often tell people that Leila chased him all over Europe even though Leila's unit arrived first! Walt and Leila (Lea) were married on August 17, 1945, in Gary, Indiana after the surrender of Japan at the home of her brother, Bill.

To this union, 3 children were born; Walter (Wally) Frederick Morrison, III and wife Anne Keefe of Windsor, CO, Marilyn Morrison Willits of Union, IA, and Lisa Emelyn Morrison November of Broomfield, CO . Walt and Leila resided in Denison for over 50 years.

Walt is survived by his wife, Leila; his children, Walter (Wally) and wife Anne Keefe of Windsor, CO, Marilyn Willits of Union, IA and Lisa November of Broomfield, CO ; 7 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, generosity, humor, and integrity to his family and many friends. In death he rejoins his parents, two sisters, Mildred Baltzell and Marion Brissenden, and his daughter-in-law, Marolyne Gomez Morrison.

Walt was a people person. He had a passion for getting to know his fellow man. His generous spirit, ready humor, and quick wit will be missed by the many people he touched in his life. Funeral services were Monday April 12, 2010 at 2 pm at The United Church Of Christ in Belvidere, NE. Officiants Eldon and Mary Beth Nicholson, Organist Arlyis Dill, congregational hymns "This Is My Father's World" and "It Is Well With My Soul", casket bearers; Walter F. Morrison IV, Daniel S. Morrison, Aaron R. Willits, Mark A. Willits, David J. Willits, Benjamin I. November, Hannah C. November, William Wright Jr., Brent Johnston, and Zachery Mercer. Burial will be in the Belvidere Cemetery. Military graveside by Hebron American Legion Saxton Post #180. Memorial in care of the family. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Thank you for celebrating the life and faith of Walt with us –

Leila, Wally, Marilyn, and Lisa along with the grandchildren, Aaron, Mark, Ricky, David, Danny, Benjamin, and Hannah.

Walt was always in my corner. He liked me or at least I thought so. I sure as hell liked him. I know we all must die and continue on however I wish Walt could of gone without that horrible Alzheimers! Not a way to go with a man of such a wonderful personality. I think a man like him will be well taken care of in Heaven. Oh I know he is there for sure. You can't make it unless you are like him!
