Out of curiosity I looked up Dr Nance to see if he had retired. I found Martha´s delightful overview of her Dad´s life and accomplishments. How proud you and your brother and families must be. I was Dr. Nance´s secretary in 1975 until my husband graduated in 1977 from MCV School of Pharmacy. He was the hardest working man I ever knew. However, if I were to come to his office door with a question or to share an experience, he put his pencil down and sat back and took time for me. He was brilliant and taught me a great deal about taking your job seriously. I will always fondly remember Dr. Nance

Walter was a wonderful mentor and friend to me and to all his students. His intellect was inspiring and his modesty impressive. Walter was a Southern gentleman, with a great laugh. He was a great conversationalist and a math-wiz as well. I was most fortunate to work with him as a student and to know him as a friend thereafter. Rest in peace, dear Walter.
