Walter OWENS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2022.
Walter Owens, singer of pub songs, irrepressible nosy parker and lifelong family man, died on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
He was 86 — "a good age," as he always said, but far too soon for those of us who wanted many more years of his very good company.
Born in Sale, Cheshire in 1935, a child of Irish immigrants in England during the war, he was the youngest of five and grew up taking nothing for granted and grabbing every opportunity that came his way.
Walter was known for his cheeky humour, ready laugh and the ever-present twinkle in his blue eyes. A devoted fan of Man United, he would holler at the screen for decades at the incompetence of the players and coaches.
An enthusiastic singer — if not one known for remembering all the words — he would hop on the stage at the slightest of invitations and enlist the crowd in joining in.
He leaves behind his wife, Maureen, who he met at a church dance in the 50s and to whom he was devoted for the rest of his life. They were a pair bent on adventure — from their immigration to Canada with three toddler children in the year of Canada's Expo, to their many travels around the world in the years that followed.
Together, they loved and enjoyed their children and their grandchildren, their many friends, and so very many local pubs. They were such regulars at the Royal Coachman in Waterdown that when their triplet grandchildren were born, the sign outside the pub announced the birth.
Walter leaves behind his children, Anne Marie and her husband Frank, Mike, Paul and his wife Wendy, and Bryan; his grandchildren Michelle, Owen, Gabriel, Samuel, Evan, James, Alison, Lucas, Kierstyn and Riley and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his grandson Chris. In England, his two older sisters Phyl and Sheila, brother-in-law John and his wife Jean, sister-in-law Teresa and his lifelong best friends, Johnny and Josie remember so many good times.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 1 p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St N, Waterdown. A celebration of Walter's life will follow at the Royal Coachman.
If desired, a donation in memory of Walter to the Alzheimer's Society or Mount Nemo Christian Nursing Home would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
