Walter K. Unterborg

Pleasant Valley - Walter K. Unterborg, Sr., 69, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, February 26, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 31, 1937 to the late Walter E. and Sabine Unterborg in Poughkeepsie. He was a graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park. Walt was employed by IBM, where he graduated from the Tool and Dye Making School and went on to become a mechanical engineer and manufacturing specialist at the company's Poughkeepsie location. He retired in 1991 after 36 years of service. Walt was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. Walt loved bass fishing, model railroading, and baseball. He was an avid NY Yankee fan. Walt had also been active in a local bowling league and served as a little league coach. On November 14, 1964 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Poughkeepsie, he married Frances Misner. Mrs. Unterborg survives at home. In addition to his wife, Walt is also survived by a daughter, Tammy Unterborg of Pleasant Valley; a son, W. Karl Unterborg, Jr., daughter-in-law, Rachel Buist Unterborg, a granddaughter, Katrina Marie Unterborg, and a grandson, Jonathan David Unterborg, all of Rhinebeck. A period of memorial visitation will take place from 10 to 11 am, Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the New Beginnings Church, 35 DeGarmo Rd., Poughkeepsie. A memorial service will follow at 11 am with Pastor Mike Gerhardt officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
