Although political opponents for many years I had the greatest respect for Walters integrity and dedication. Canada was lucky to have him as a good and faithful servant.

Dès le début de ma carrière d'enseignant, Walter a permis à moi et mon épouse Rachelle Champagne de s'installer dans une «teacherage» à Legal. Et par la suite, j'ai eu le bonheur d'enseigner à Ben et Cécile. Quel plaisir ce groupe d'élèves appuyé de parents solides!
Ensuite les belles années, à Ottawa avec des rencontres occasionnelles à la Colline parlementaire.
Voilà que le Bon Dieu le rappelle. Bon courage à toi Fernande et tes enfants.

We are thankful for Walter's leadership in the Alberta rapeseed industry, and for the work that he did with the AB government in negotiating the ongoing contracts with the Japanese Oilseed Processors. Many continue to benefit from the development of the subsequent canola industry and these relationships. This alone could have been his legacy - but Walter Van de Walle was certainly much more than this. Thank you to the family for having supported his public work.
