Dear Jennie and Amy, I don't know if you will get this message now, but I was trying to see if any of you were on Facebook etc so I put your dad in the search engine.and found this very very sad news. I just wanted to say how very sorry I am. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I spent a wonderful summer with you all and how welcome auntie Mary, Uncle David and their wonderful daughters made me. My love thoughts are with you. I just found out last night while trying to find David on the internet that he had passed away. David and I go way back to our late teens. Our fathers were firefighters for the Falls View Fire Department in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I was considering accompanying David as a seaman but received my call for RCMP training instead. I was able to connect with David in Vancouver when he was in port and after he left the sea. I still have a kangaroo hide he brought me from Australia on one of his voyages. His father, Wally, lead the Welland Fife (Flute) and Drum Band and we toured the county fairs in the Niagara area and northern New York State. I was in the colour party due to my lack of musical talent. I knew Mary and loved the Irish lilt to her voice but have not had the honour of meeting Theresa. I have always considered David a good friend and have many good memories of our times together. I am saddened at his passing. My sympathy to all members of his family, especially to Robert, Dale, and Mary Francis who I know from our childhood. If Robert gets to see this I would like to get in touch with him. I can be contacted at [email protected]

I was just informed of David's passing and I'm very upset!
I wanted to say goodbye, to thank him for all his support over the years, for his generosity, humour, and stories. From hanging around the VAM to standing in my living room knee deep in tax papers to encouraging me to complete my masters degree (as a senior!) - he was always positive. Yes, I knew about his cancer but I thought he could handle it and I just thought he would always be around. Just one more of those amazing bear hugs. . . . or, another deep laugh, or, an illustration of his intellect, or, another story about the girls and Ireland and nights with Jimmy and courting Theresa. . . .thank you David for being in my life.
Many, many condolences to his family - I am so sorry for your loss.
love and blessings,

MJ

Dear Jennifer and Amy,

I'm saddened to hear of your dad's passing. He was so generous and encouraging as a mentor to me when I was younger. I have many fond memories of Summer Pops and continue to perform percussion in orchestral and band groups.

Your dad often laughed at me having to haul around all the associated gear, when his chosen instrument was the much more portable piccolo. But he would always lend a hand moving equipment, loaning instruments, chaperoning, and helping out in countless other ways. I got in touch with him a couple years ago and was able to tell him a little bit about the impact he had on my musical life.

My sympathies to you, Theresa, and the rest of your family.

Pam
