Wanda SMITH Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 3, 2019.
On October 4, 1955, Wanda Vanette Waddleton was born and accepted, through adoption, into a loving family in Alto, Texas. Wanda was the daughter of Valentine and Euretta Waddleton.
Wanda was raised in Alto, Texas where she attended and graduated from Alto High School. As a child/teenager, Wanda was a girl scout, a member of multiple committees and clubs in her school, a cheerleader and very active in the 4H Club, where she won many competitions for her beautiful dress designs and creations (fun fact: Wanda designed and created 13 bridesmaids and flower girl dresses).
She continued her education at Prairie View A&M University where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. Wanda completed Undergrad as a Home Economics Major, but with both parents as passionate educators, Education became her destiny. She completed her Masters in Education and went on to inspire young children for the next 28 years. After retiring in 2007, she continued to inspire at the collegiate level at Lone Star Community College for about 3 years.
Wanda was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she gave her life to Christ. She was also a member of the ZETA PHI BETA Sorority Incorporated, Omega Gamma Chapter at Prairie View A&M University. She (Dimples) served as President of her line, "Blue Fire," Spring of 1975.
While attending Prairie View A&M, Wanda met Kenneth Smith. Wanda and Kenneth were married on November 25, 1978 at New Hope Baptist Church in Alto Texas. To this Union two children were born, Fallon in 1981 and Kevin in 1987.
What everybody knew about Wanda was that, no matter which hat she wore - mommy, daughter, sister, friend, teacher - she was always the same; smiling, accepting and loving. With Wanda no one was a stranger. She herself was accepted and embraced by many. Her loving nature did not go unrewarded. God in his mercy and his grace lovingly called her home on Friday the 27th of September, 2019.
She is preceded in death by her parents Valentine and Euretta Waddleton.
Wanda leaves a legacy of love: She leaves to cherish her memories her husband - Kenneth Smith; one daughter - Fallon Johnson (Eddie Johnson); one son - Kevin Smith; two stepsons Cedric and Kenryck; one brother - Wayne Waddleton; one niece - Whitney Waddleton and one grandchild, the love of her life, Edlon Janae' Johnson, and a host of cousins and friends who will miss her immensely.
Wanda Vanette Waddleton Smith rest peacefully. We love you always.

I am deeply sadden by the loss you and your family have encountered. My condolences I had the pleasure of seeing Wanda a few years ago at my cousin Mike Smith funeral. She is a beautiful person with a beautiful smile. I've never seen a frown on her face. She brighten up a room when she enters. She is my homegirl from Alto,Texas. Will miss you RIP. Wanda, after hearing of your passing my mind went down memory lane. We became friends our freshmen year (1973) on the Hill (PVAMU). It was a group of us who stayed together like sisters until we graduated. We would play spades all night but never missed a class. You would take us home with you on weekends in Alto Texas. Your aunt would cook the best meals and we always had a great time in such a small town . I can still hear your voice and see your beautiful dimples. You had a kind heart and a beautiful spirit. I will always treasure our last conversation which lasted about two hours. You will forever be in my heart ❤. My prayers are with your family. Ty and Debra stay strong and hold on to the good memories .

Love you G Momma!

Not knowing that it would be the last time, what a blessing it was to feel your arms lovingly wrapped around me, to see your eyes twinkle in delight, and to hear your laughter dimpled-deep in joy! Oh, my dear sweet Wanda, together we have journeyed long and far, from giddy girls to grateful grannies, through the valleys and the mountains, our friendship has stood the test of time, and for such a friendship, I am forever indebted to you. So as I take this brief respite in the valley, know that I shall find comfort in remembering and loving you. Now, I will close this conversation as we have closed so many others: "Love you."

Until our journey resumes,
Rose
