Virginia Beach - Barbara Ann Carden (Malley) went to be with the Lord in the late evening hours of September 12, 2013. Surrounded by the love and comfort of her family members. Barbara passed peacefully just 23 days after her husband of 53 years, John David Carden. Barbara was born on October 2, 1938 to the late Andrew and Frances Malley in Scranton, Penn. Her post-adolescent admirations led her to nursing school in New York. Her career in nursing lasted over 45 years. She served 30 of those locally as a nurse in the Pediatric ward of Virginia Beach General Hospital. Barbara enjoyed traveling far and wide with her late husband, John, who served 23 years in the United States Army. After retiring, Barbara continued her travels, visiting with family and friends in many different states and countries. She was an avid sports fan and was particularly supportive of teams in which her children and grandchildren participated in. Barbara enjoyed watching her favorite shows and sports of all kinds, especially women's soccer, figure skating, and Olympic sporting events. Her favorite professional teams were the Baltimore Orioles and Indianapolis Colts. Barbara's other hobbies included ballroom dancing, shopping, and cooking. She was a dedicated member and supporter of the Church of the Holy Family. She also valued her memberships to the National Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association. Barbara is survived by her family in Virginia Beach including her three sons Ron, John, and David; daughter in law Tammy, grandchildren Kristin, Ryan, Tyler, Mackensi, and Matthew; and Tiffany, mother of Kristin and Matthew. Barbara will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and loved ones for whom she cared deeply. She was a faithful, loving, and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. Her dedication to joyfully helping others touched the hearts of many and will always be remembered. The Carden family will have a memorial service for Barbara on Tuesday, September 24 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Family on Great Neck Road. Following the service, the family will welcome guest to celebrate Barbara's life in the hospitality room of the Church of the Holy Family.
