Wayne Joseph Felter Sr.

Wayne Joseph Felter Sr., age 73, of Wyalusing, Pa., passed away tragically in an accident Saturday, July, 1, 2017, on his property in Wyalusing.

Wayne was born in Phillipsburg, N.J., on Jan. 9, 1944, a son of the late Edward E. and Dorothy Mae Hall Felter Jr. Wayne graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1961. He and his family moved to Wyalusing in 1958 when his family purchased the Taylorville farm where he currently resided. Wayne operated a number of farms over the years before serving as the Wyalusing Borough manager for 20+ years. In "retirement" he stayed active in the fire department, as well as his Felter's Tree Service, and raising beef cattle on the farm.

Wayne was a member of the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Department for over 45 years having served two terms as the company's president and also served as vice president. He was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons. He was extremely generous with his time and his talents, lending a hand to most anyone in need. He was devoted to and extremely proud of the Wyalusing community. In 2002, Wayne was the recipient of the community's Outstanding Citizen Award. In true Wayne fashion, he once said "If you can do something to make your community a better place to live, then you should do it." Wayne will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Surviving are his son, Wayne Felter II of Wyalusing, Pa.; grandsons, Braden Felter of Wyalusing, Pa., Mitchell Felter of Wyalusing, Pa.; brother, Glenn Felter and Brenda Robinson of Wyalusing, Pa., Keith and Rosanne Felter of North Rome, Pa.; sister, Patricia Luttinen of Wyalusing, Pa.; step-grandchildren, Mallory Maloney of Wyalusing, Pa.; step great-grandchildren, Jayden Maloney of Towanda, Pa., Addisyn, Aubri, and Rilynn Brown of Wyalusing, Pa. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Edward E. Felter III on Feb. 25, 1997; a brother-in-law, Paul Luttinen on Aug. 27, 2008; nephews, Aaron Felter on Nov. 6, 2005 and Edward Felter IV on March 12, 2014; and a step-grandson, D. Andrew Maloney on Jan. 12, 2012; and a great-nephew, Jacob Heeman on Feb. 16, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, Pa., with the Rev. Dr. Barry R. Ballard of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church officiating.

Friends and family may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, Pa.
