Wayne Hewitt Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.

Wayne Raymond Hewitt of Georgetown, TX, was called home to be with our lord on February 23, 2022.  Wayne was born on May 12, 1951, in Caribou, Maine.   He relocated to Austin, TX in his early childhood, and was a graduate of Reagan High School.

Wayne had a humble servant’s heart.  He would always lend a helping hand to those in need.  He had an infectious smile, a quick wit, and loved making people laugh.  He had a gift for striking up a conversation with anyone and everyone.  Each friend held a special place in his heart.

Wayne had an adventurous free spirit.  He had a passion for motorcycles and hot rods and riding his motorcycle across the open roads brought him joy.

Wayne was also a devoted father, grandfather/great-grandfather, and uncle/great-uncle.  One of his fondest memories was taking his daughter on a cross country road trip to Maine in a two-seater Pontiac Fierro, listening to a George Straight cassette the entire way. He was so proud of his four generations, and he always made sure his great-granddaughter was stocked up on Jello and chocolate pudding.  Family was the light of his life.

Wayne’s mother, Ruby Hewitt, father, Raymond Hewitt, and sister, Lisa Hewitt-Byrd welcomed him to his heavenly home.  He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Hewitt-McElmurry and partner Scott Zucknick; three grandchildren, Ashlyn Wharton and husband Cody, Alyson McElmurry, and Colten McElmurry; one great-grandchild, Sophie Wharton; niece, Brittany Byrd Morrison and great-niece Beckett Morrison.  He is also survived by close family friends, Jim Connolly, and the Fredley family.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to neighbors and friends of the San Gabriel RV Park, the medical staff at Georgetown Fresenius Dialysis Center, and to Georgetown ISD for their unwavering support.

To our Daddy, Grandpa, Granddaddy, Uncle and Friend; until we meet again, you will live forever in our hearts.  May your beautiful soul be shifting through gears on the highways of heaven.  We love you.

Services will be private.

I was just advised about Wayne’s passing. Wayne and I worked together for a few years and were neighbors a short time. He always had a smile and was always willing to help if needed.

Rest easy in God’s arms my friend.

Just found out about the passing of Wayne.
Many memories of the Hewitt family - Raymond and his chop suey, Ruby who was not only a neighbor but a friend to my mom, Lisa my childhood friend for many years, and Wayne who was definitely one of a kind. Thru the years when I have looked back on my childhood, Wayne and his green Camero have come to mind. Often wonder how many times a week he washed the dirt off or how many coats of wax were applied thru the years. He babied that car. May beautiful memories be forever treasured by family and friends! ~ Heavenly Peace

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Wayne was one of my best friends growing up. Playing football in his front yard. Driving the UT drag every Friday nite in his 1970 Camaro Z-28.
Going to the drag races on Saturdays. Wayne, Bobby and myself going to Green Valley Raceway in Dallas!
Wayne and me picking up girls in San Marcos to go out to the movies.
I may not have kept in touch my friend for the last few years, but with our lives starting out in 4th grade you have and always be part of my life!
Your Dad, Mom and your Sister Lisa have welcomed you with open hearts and arms into Heaven.
My condolences to your family for their loss. I know they will miss you just as I will miss you too. Love you, my friend.

My heart absolutely hurt when I learned of his passing. I'm so sorry - the world was a much better place because he was in it. His smile in the hallway and conversations and interactions with our students is going to be missed beyond measure. We traded bags of Epson salt and talked about how crazy the world is changing. He will be so missed. Prayers to the family - I considered him my family too.

I met Mr Wayne a few years ago while working as a travel NO in Austin. He was one of the first people I met in the San Gabriel River RV park! He was the kindest, most gentle soul ever! He welcomed me and my husband on day one and always stepped out to say “Howdie Neoghbor” every time I drove up! I cried on his day of homecoming until the point of laughter because all I could think about was him telling me “hey now stop that, you’re going to mess up that pretty face!” I loved him so much and lost what felt like my dad the day he died! I love you Mr Wayne and you will forever hold a special place on our hearts! Eddie said the other day, “who am I going to take some food to now just to sit and talk with?” It’s going to be a hard one, but know that you are loved and missed terribly! Love The Moddleton’s

Wayne was our neighbor at San Gabriel River RV Park in Georgetown, Texas. We moved into the park one year ago and Wayne was the longest park resident at the park. Wayne truly was the kindest, soft spoken easiest person to talk to. Over the last few months Wayne struggled with his health and we made it a point to cook meals on Sundays and we'd make sure to take him meals we prepared so he'd have dinners for a couple days so he wouldn't have to cook. I am so SADDEN to hear of his passing and he will be missed by many in the park. May he R.I.P.I.H. and know he will never be forgotten. Your neighbors at Site #48, Glen and Diana Coston.
