Wayne Lynn Metting

Wayne Lynn Metting, aged 75, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, in San Antonio, TX. Wayne was born in Yorktown, TX on September 17, 1948, and lived quite a compelling life. In 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army, a pivotal event for a young man with humble beginnings.

Wayne served three years in active duty service in the Army. He was certified as an expert M14 and M16 marksman, and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged, he served three more years of reserve duty. As a young man he had an oil labor job, but eventually he found his place in the petroleum equipment business in San Antonio, TX. Furthermore, a part time job as a travel agent afforded him the opportunity to become modestly well-traveled, and worldly.

He cherished fishing trips to the Land Cut with family and friends, took enjoyment in mechanical hobbies and endeavors, and found comfort in the companionship of his dogs Indy, Katy, Jett, and Spirit.

Wayne was a kind and humble man with unyielding grit, but he also appreciated his leisure time. His life was a testament to these qualities. He fashioned a life for himself out of what he could muster. His motto for life was "press on." As a two-time cancer survivor, he lived by this motto.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Kristie Metting; daughter, Heather Young; sons, Matt and Stephen Metting; and grandchildren, Preston and Paislee. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Dennis Metting; sister, Phyllis Hanson; and parents, Max and Viola Mae Metting.

A service to honor Wayne's life will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX, on Friday, July 19th, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Shelter #4. Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery is located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.
