Wayne Powers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 7, 2024.
Wayne Claude Powers, 88, passed away on June 1, 2024, in Omaha, NE. Wayne was born on August 12, 1935, in El Monte, CA to Loren and Mary Powers. Wayne had three older brothers; Eugene, Leland, and Donald. He loved to reminisce about the great adventures he had with his brothers. He especially enjoyed the many long camping trips his family took. As a family, they visited nearly every National park west of the Mississippi.

He graduated from El Monte High School in 1953. It was in high school that Wayne forged special friendships that lasted a lifetime.

He married the love of his life, Lola Mae Moore on January 17, 1955. They welcomed their first daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Kae in February 1956, followed by Cheryl Ann in 1957, and Russell Wayne in 1960. They settled in Riverside, CA. Wayne and Lola loved spending time with their family and friends.

Wayne spent over 50 years and millions of miles driving a truck. Many of these years he worked for Marshburn Farms where he received the Safe Driver of the Year award for nine consecutive years. Later in his career, he was an owner-operator. When Wayne wasn't on the road, he could be found working on his truck or washing it.

Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was kind, caring, and funny. He enjoyed reading Western novels, listening to "good" country music aka (old country), watching Angels baseball, and talking to his many friends on the phone. He relocated to Omaha, Nebraska in 2015. Here, he enjoyed the YMCA Aquacise classes and taking road trips across the country.

Wayne was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. He served on the church council, helped with many Cursillo retreats, and could often be found doing yard work at the church. He enjoyed helping with the annual rummage sale and especially enjoyed the sweet treats provided after services. Even after relocating, his heart remained with his Trinity family. It was Wayne's deep faith that guided him to the end.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Rake of Omaha, and son, Russell Powers of Marshalltown, IA, six grandchildren: Melissa, Jessica (Mike), Amanda (Adam), Matthew, Krystal, and Dennis, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola, parents, Loren and Mary, brothers: Eugene, Leland, and Donald, and daughters, Cindy and Krys.

A service celebrating the life of Wayne Powers will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.(PST) at Trinity Lutheran Church. The church is located at 5969 Brockton Avenue, Riverside, CA 92506. The service will also be live-streamed on Trinity Lutheran's YouTube channel.
