Owner/Operator Snake Island Automotive (Metcalfe, ON) for over 30 years.
Passed away unexpectedly at home in Matawatchan on January 25, 2016. Beloved husband, life partner and best friend of Deanne (Duncan). Cherished father of Michael (Sarah) and proud "Poppa" of Lola and Molly. Loving step- father to Melissa and Heather Shahan. Much loved big "older" brother to Sherry (Brian) McCarthy. Those who knew Wayne as a business owner and friend respected him for his work ethic, honesty and integrity. Many of those also knew him for his love of snowmobiling, fishing and spending time outdoors. Wayne will be lovingly remembered for his love of family, friends and community. In keeping with his spirit, we invite you to join us in a celebration of Wayne's life at the Royal Canadian Legion, 3284 Sundstrum Street, Osgoode, ON from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.

We were deeply saddened hearing of Wayne leaving this world all too soon. He was a man above men . He was always patient and always made people feel welcome . Even if you only knew him five minutes you would walk away feeling like you made a friend . He had a smile that would light up a room and charm to boot !! We were so blessed to have known him and to have spent many adventures out our snowmobiles. Dear Swales Family:
Tom and I were so shocked and saddened to learn of Wayne's untimely death.
It was just this past summer that we stopped into the garage to wish him best wishes on his well earned retirement, and share in the spread of goodies, and beverages that he provided for his friends and customers. He was our 'go to' guy whenever we needed his expertise to repair one of our cars over the years.
He always was so welcoming and had the nicest smile whenever we saw him.
It is just so unfair that he did not get to enjoy an extended retirement.
Our hearts and prayers go out to his family at this very sad time.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I have known Wayne since I was about 10, through my brother Reg. Reg and Wayne worked together at Snake Island and other garages for so many years. Wayne serviced my Dads vehicles when he was alive. Almost every year when I was in the area and with either Reg or Dad we would always stop at the garage either on my way to or from the airport just to say hello. Rest in peace Wayne

I'm so very sorry to hear about dear Wayne. We had fun as kids with Wayne and his crazy bicycle inventions back on Crocus Ave. Wayne always had a big smile and a keen attitude and was always up for anything. I'll always remember Wayne for his honesty and integrity and his natural joy for whatever was happening around him. I feel sad for sister Sherry and all those that Wayne was close to. Our deepest condolences to your family & friends on hearing of the loss of such an incredible person. My husband and myself we knew Wayne, seems like forever and that was a good thing. Friends like that don't come too often. Wayne did all the work on all our vehicles, we felt safe with the work he did. Kirk delivered auto parts to him from Centennial auto Parts. They go back as friends. Hope time heals your hearts and fills it with plenty of memories to last your lifetimes.

When Wayne decided to take a well-deserved retirement not long ago, we, like so many missed interacting with him at Snake Island Automotive. The impact of his death has touched so many more.
Wayne was a pillar of the community who exemplified honesty, integrity and hard work. He was always there when needed and expected very little in return. He thoroughly enjoyed interacting with people every day and the feeling was reciprocated by many. He was a fun guy to be around and his smile was infectious.
We will forever cherish the many wonderful memories shared with Wayne and his family. We will miss him dearly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Wayne's entire family during this very difficult time.
