Welch C. "Carlos" Everman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2025.
Welch C. "Carlos" Everman, age 37, of Monona, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at UW Hospital after enduring many hardships - in the presence of his mother, brother and longtime girlfriend. He was born on November 17, 1987, in the mountains surrounding Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

He was adopted by his loving parents, Welch D. Everman and Elizabeth A. Bard, and brought home to Orono, Maine in the fall of 1988. They adopted his brother, John L. Everman, four years later.

Carlos spent his early childhood learning a new language in his new home - a process which was not without setbacks. But with a quiet determination that he maintained for the rest of his life, he overcame those obstacles and became a model for surmounting difficulties to everyone who knew him.

After his father's passing, Carlos moved with his family to Wisconsin in 2005 where he attended Monona Grove High School, graduating in 2007. He attended Madison College afterwards and would work various jobs, none of which he enjoyed more than his position assisting travelers with luggage and wheelchair transport at the Dane County Regional Airport.

Carlos was a beacon of light in a dark, cruel world. Known for his childlike, infectious smile and laugh, he was quick to brighten any space he occupied with a positivity uncommon for those who experience the trials and tribulations he faced.

Carlos admired and idolized superheroes and, in many ways, reached those lofty levels himself as an eternal inspiration and representation of goodness and of resilience.

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." - Christopher Reeve

Carlos is survived by his mother, Liz Bard; younger brother, John Everman; and his beloved family cat, Zoe. He was preceded in death by his father, Welch D. Everman.

The Everman-Bard family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Speech Therapy Department at the University of Maine and the friends and parishioners at St. Anne's in the Penobscot community for their care and support of Carlos during his childhood. We would also like to greatly thank the Trauma and Life Support Center at UW-Hospital for their kindness and care while treating Carlos.
