Wendy Kenny Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2022.

Wendy Kenny, of Tiskilwa, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Cabin Livin’ Senior Care, where she had been lovingly cared for for one week, following three weeks at St. Margaret’s Health in Peru.

She was born Wendy Laurene Galetti on July 17, 1960, to Lawrence and Edith (Transburg) Galetti of Seatonville.  Wendy grew up in Seatonville, attending school in Spring Valley, graduating from Hall High School in 1978.  She married her high school sweetheart, John Cresto.  She later married Gary Kenny, and they resided in their little house in Seatonville with their beloved dog, Max.  Gary passed away after 20 years of marriage.

Wendy met and was swept off her feet by Wayne Sims, whom she spent the rest of her life with.  They lived outside of Tiskilwa and also spent time at their getaway home in the UP of Michigan, where they enjoyed snowmobiling and sharing their home with family and friends.

Wendy was a waitress at the Red Door in Peru for many years, but her true passion was physical fitness.  She was instrumental in the beginning of the aerobics classes at the Y.M.C.A. in Peru, where she worked for over 35 years teaching aerobics, yoga, water aerobics, kick boxing, Rock Steady Boxing to benefit those dealing with Parkinson’s, and Silver Sneakers.  She was also a certified personal trainer.

Wendy was also an avid gardener, taking great pride in her vegetable and flower gardens.  She said in her garden is where she could feel close to God.  She expressed many times her faith in God, and her spirit will be present as we share that love with her.  She was a lover of dogs, especially Max, Zeke, Rascal, and Sasha to name a few.

Wendy is survived by her sisters Linda (Rich) Kulupka of Princeton and Cathy (Joe) Bickett of Hollowayville; Wayne Sims of Tiskilwa; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and members of the Cresto, Kenny, and Sims families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Edith Galetti; her husband, Gary Kenny; maternal grandparents, Walter and Stella Transburg; and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Lena Galetti.

Funeral services for Wendy will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 27, at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, with Pastor Derek Boggs officiating.  Visitation will be held the evening of Wednesday, October 26, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, at the funeral home.  Cremation has been accorded.  Memorials in Wendy’s memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Friends of Strays in Princeton.

Wendy was my aerobics instructor at the Y when I first moved here 35 years ago. I started yoga a couple of months ago and had a hard time keeping up. It was obvious she was ill, but she was still so supportive and dedicated to fitness. May she rest in peace.

Wendy was a childhood school friend and a member of the class of 1978. Her smile could like up the room. She will be missed. A tree has been planted through the Arbor Day Foundation in her memory from the Class of 1978.
