Wendy Michelsen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 1, 2025.
Wendy Michelsen, 64, passed to Heaven on Friday, June 20, 2025 at home in Englewood, FL. She faced her illnesses with courage and optimism that was a source of inspiration to her family and friends. Wendy was born to the late Bill and Dee Johnson, September 3, 1960 in Glen Cove, NY. She graduated from Locust Valley High School in 1979 and attended New England College. She married the love of her life Erik Michelsen in September, 1984 in Lattingtown, NY, eventually settling in Clifton Park and Ballston Lake, NY where she raised her family. Wendy was passionate in her love for family, friends and animals. While she had a career in the insurance industry, she was delighted to eventually shift to a new career as a skilled dog trainer. Wendy was well known for rescuing dogs, as she and her family provided a loving home to many beloved pets over the years. Wendy was very proud of her son and daughter and delighted with the arrival of her beloved grandsons, Easton and Beau. During her last year and a half she and Erik retired to Florida. Gahada, however, was always her sanctuary and the place she felt closest to God and where she had many friends she had known since childhood.

Wendy is survived by her husband Erik, her children Matthew Michelsen (and his partner Cheryl Sandrow) of Albany, NY and Katy Gillespie (and her husband Dylan) of Clifton Park, NY; as well as her two adorable grandsons Easton and Beau Gillespie. She is also survived by her siblings Jill Parkosewich (CT), Bobby Johnson (CT) and Bonnie See (NC). A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to: Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

Wendy, I’m so deeply saddened to hear of your loss. I have such warm memories of being welcomed into your home during high school—you were always so kind and made me feel like part of the family. My heartfelt condolences go out to Phil, Katy, and Erik during this difficult time. I hope you can find comfort in the love and memories shared by all who knew her.

Being blessed to be friends with Phil-Matt, Wendy always took care of us. Letting us stay over, feeding us, or just being a wise woman to talk about life to. She was always there for me and I could feel the love from her. She was so wonderful to us as a friend group and always made time for us to pick us up or take us somewhere. She will forever be remembered as the warm loving presence she embodied.

With all the love,
Stosh

To our dearest friend Wendy,
Our friendship all began in 1991 at Kids Connection!! Without family locally, our friends became our family. Everything from daycare events to neighborhood parade's to fun times at Gahada - Kentucky Derby parties, Labor Day and Columbus Day weekends!! Cruise vacation, Christmas holidays, summer backyard parties and Halloween parties all rounded out with our day to day assisting of each other and then just plain moral support. You lived your life with the glass 1/2 full vs 1/2 empty - always positive regardless of the situation!! What a great life lesson I learned from you. Over the past 10 years, you have experienced health challenges but true to your beliefs , your approach was always to look on the bright side. We will miss your infectious laughter !!
Erik, Matt and Katy - our hearts are heavy with sadness for the loss of our friend- Wendy would want all of us to continue with the love and traditions we have established throughout the years.
Rest in peace and pain free my friend.
All our love, Nancy, Kevin, Bourke and Laura

Wendy was always a happy and leavening presence in the Gahada community. It was a privilege to know her. She will be remembered and VERY sorely missed.

To Erik & family, I hope your lives will overflow with sweet memories to overwhelm the sadness you surely feel.

Wendy will be greatly missed. She was part of my life for almost 60 years. She brought a depth of caring to every situation. She carried herself with strength but was also vulnerable and easy to talk to. My deepest sympathy to Erik and their children and their families as well as her siblings. Fondly, Patreena

Wendy had an amazing capacity for love and courage. She was an inspiration to all who met her. She will be missed greatly here on earth. Everyone and everything she touched is better off for her presences.

I had the privilege to know Wendy for sixty years. She was one of my oldest and dearest friends here at Gahada. There was never a more loyal friend than Wendy. She was one of the most genuine people you could ever meet. Those of us who knew her well were all better for the experience.
Though I saw here less the last few years, Wendy and I always encouraged each other through our respective health challenges. Every time she called me with good news, something else lurked around the corner. She fought with optimism, dignity and grace that was unparalleled. She wanted to be there for Erik, Matt and Katy, her siblings, and especially her grandchildren, Easton and Beau.
Erik, there are no words to describe how seriously you took your wedding vows of "for better or for worse, in sickness and in health." You were there every single step of the way and were inspirational to us all. Jill and Bobby, you were right there with Erik, as I´m sure Matt and Katy were as well. Though so sad to hear of Wendy´s passing, she is now free of her failing body, and heaven just gained a true Angel. Rest in peace my love. Until we meet again in the skies over Jenny Lake on a cool Fall day......
