Wendy was a student of mine at Richard King High School in Corpus Christi, TX. She was a great student and the kind of person that a teacher always remembers and hopes they do well in life. I am very saddened that she was taken from this life so young. I always knew that she would be a great scientist. My sincere condolences to her friends and family. The world does not have enough people like Wendy. I know she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

I had an office near Wendy for about 10 years. We had fun together. She always impressed me with her passion and love for animals. I remember one day she was driving on I-95 and a dog was on the highway. Without thinking of anything but the dog´s safety, she stopped. Her window was down and the dog jumped in her car! Poor Wendy caused a four car pile up on the highway. Minor to no damage to cars and nobody was hurt. She saved the dog, but, unfortunately, got a ticket. Although aggravated that she got cited, she would have done it again if it meant saving the dog´s life. Wendy was tireless in her efforts to protect animals, and the world is a better place due to her brief presence on the earth. My heart goes out to Mike. Much love!, Anne-Marie

In loving memory of Wendy Teas, whose kindness and warmth touched us all. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. Your spirit will live on in all of our hearts forever. Some of the special moments shared with Wendy include our cherished get-togethers, memorable parties, the joy of enjoying treats together and the laughter we shared. One particularly memorable time was when we rode the ATV's together in the mornings together. I assisted her with the turtle survey. Those moments were truly special and filled with warmth, kindness, a lot of smiles and knowledge about the turtles. Rest in Heaven my friend. I'll miss you. You were truly a sweet and kind person.

I met Wendy through sea turtle surveys on Virginia Key several years ago. She was a patient and brilliant mentor, and I learned so much about sea turtle behavior and conservation from her. I'll always think back fondly on that nesting season with her.

Wendy will be missed terribly by all of us at the lab. Some of my favorite memories of my time in South Florida have been with Wendy, from the Opa Locka flea market, to the orchid sales, and camping, fossiling, and football games. We miss you Wendy.

Wendy was one of the kindest and most giving people I have ever known. I first met Wendy in the 1980s. As Texas Coordinator of the Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network (STSSN) I worked closely with Wendy, the National Coordinator of the STSSN, for decades. Wendy built and fostered the network so that it provided the strong foundation for what it is today. We worked on a shoestring budget but I made sure to cover my responsibilities for STSSN activities in my work area of responsibility and overall for the state, thanks to Wendy´s help, support, and encouragement. We worked through labor intensive days of faxing and photocopies and periods of high and controversial strandings due to incidental capture during shrimping. Wendy and I became friends through this work and I could always count on her help when needed, like when I had a zero dollar budget and when we had large stranding pulses including during cold stunning. Wendy was highly ethical and diligent about doing a good job and helping those in need. She was an exemplary federal model and human being. She made this world, and my world, a better place. I am crestfallen at her passing, and at such a young age. I mourn her loss, send prayers and condolences to her family and friends. I miss my friend deeply and will hold her in my heart forever.

I met Wendy through sea turtle work, and particularly, through writing about sea turtle anatomy. Wendy was a keen observer who taught me some key aspects to document and describe that otherwise might have been overlooked. Ironically, the last time I saw her, it was again to highlight a bit of sea turtle anatomy for a newish project I took on. As usual, she was a tremendous help. Of course, her expertise spanned more than sea turtles. For example, she also taught me a lot about mangos. Wendy will be missed by many and in so many different ways.

Wendy was a student in my band at Shannon Jr. H. S. in Corpus Christi. I often joked about her changing from percussion to flute to succeed in band.
Wendy was also the first baby sitter for all three of our children -- Laura, Lisa, and David.
Wendy was a terrific person, both as a youngster and as she aged. We were blessed to know her and to love her.
Wendy, may God bless your soul.

Wendy was my baby sister as I was 22 when she was born. I did not meet her in person until she was 3 years old as I was already married and living far away. She was a very special person to me and touched my life in so many wonderful ways. Her life on this earth has ended but her impact on the world and the memories we shared will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace sweet baby sis.

My favorite memory with Wendy was going on Virginia Key sea turtle nest survey. I learned how to locate and mark aside with GPS. I think the greatest rush was when Wendy allowed me to go along and release Sea Turtle hatchlings. When he used to scold me when I would drive the all-terrain vehicle to fast. I told her that that's how Mike taught me to drive! I believe her response was slowdown where you're not going out again.

I remember every morning I saw her coming back to the office from the beach and turtle nest hunting. She was always looking out for someone or something. While you may know of her through mammals, I knew of her for her kindness and drive to make thing better for all of us at the Center. She was a pillar of the holiday parties and fund raisers for WAVES and was constantly pushing to make conditions better for all of us in the workplace through her involvement with MEAC. She gave more than she ever got but that didnt matter to her. To see all creatures happier and in a better place was her only concern. I will miss her terribly. Rest well my friend...

Wendy was one of the kindest and most down-to-earth people I have known. She was always helping animals in some way. She played a big part in the activities at the SEFSC and made all the events there special.
I am so sorry to Mike and the rest of her family. She will truly be missed.

I have great memories of Wendy from when I first started my federal career in 1997 and assisting with the Texas STSSN with the USGS and the NPS. I do not know how we did it before emails, the internet, and databases, but I have clear memories of spending hours faxing sea turtle stranding forms to Wendy and making photocopies of hundreds of forms to mail her in the USPS mail! Wendy was always so kind and thoughtful when she called me with questions about the stranded turtles and updates on the sick ones that were receiving care. As all things became digital, we grew together when digitizing forms and the STSSN data into databases, and we all went through the growing pains together.

Quiet and kind, Wendy always found time to stop by to visit us at the Padre Island National Seashore when she visited family in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. My fondest memories of Wendy are when we had a large cold-stunned sea turtle event in Texas in 2011, and Wendy came to Texas to help with necropsies and aid with collecting samples from hundreds of green turtles. We worked long hours in the cold, into the dark hours, until all the turtles were processed. We then relaxed as a team with a delicious Tex-Mex dinner later in the evening. I will always remember Wendy as one of the hard-working pioneers of the STSSN, who worked selflessly and dedicated her career to sea turtles.

I was her mail carrier and she came outside to get her mail and her weekly flyer for the supermarket spacial. First Christmas of me being her mail carrier, she made a recipe that were made with fudge and what her husband called dirty snow ball, she also made a miniature rum cake. For the next 3 years that I was her mail carrier, she made me feel appreciated. I will miss her greatly.

Wendy is the kindest most thoughtful person I´ve ever met. We met at NOAA Fisheries in the mid-80´s. I feel like I´ve known her my entire life. We worked on some sea turtle projects. Her love of nature and all living things was boundless. An avid reader she recommended many a great read over the years. She and Mike, her husband and one of my best friends, shared many a meal together. I will miss her deeply. Wendy was such a great person, life just isn´t fair.

Wendy was someone I always looked forward to surveying with. I always learned something new when I walked down the beach with her and I always admired her dedication to Virginia Key. I'll walk with Wendy in mind and pick up whatever trash or debris I can carry. May she rest in peace.

She was too young to leave us so unexpectedly. Wendy cared so much for all animals and people. She was kind and dedicated to making a difference for wildlife, nature, and the larger community. I always remember her eyes would light up every time she talked about the birds in her backyard or doing beach monitoring for nesting turtles. She has gone through a lot in life facing numerous personal difficulties. May she rest in peace. My deepest sympathies to Mike and her family. Mridula

I met Wendy at the RSMAS bar with Dr. Peter Lutz in fall 1989. She was just starting work at Noaa and I was starting my masters thesis work and volunteering on the key Biscayne sea turtle project. No question about her degree of compassion for living things And links she would go to help them.
I respect the fact that when working with endangered species, the animals themselves were of priority, their condition, their exposure and limitation of such Forefront consideration in any work Wendy took on. I will miss her and thought we would get a chance to see the turtles on Black Sand Beach together here in Hawaii.
