In memory of
Denton Collins
May 26, 2025
We remember Wes as we saw him and Chayla in the early fall of 2004. They were heading back to Camp Lejuene for Wes' deployment back to Iraq. They left the following day, leaving us regretting having only a few hours to enjoy their company.
As always, we thank the U.S. Marines for their ever faithful service to our country and we ask for God's blessings and safekeeping on the men and women who serve today.

Twenty years have now passed since Wes was killed in action in the second battle of Fallujah, Iraq. Our memories of seeing him and Chayla in September 2004 are still fresh. We ask God's blessings on Wes' family, and for Him to bless the Marines that fought with Wes on that fateful day. May God bless America.

Since 2004, our thoughts on all Memorial Day holidays have been of Wes. We so appreciate his willingness to step up in service to this country, and we mourn his loss in that service on November 10, 2004. We praise God that there continue to be men and women who volunteer to protect our country as we navigate the perilous world we live in. May God richly bless these men and women and their branches of service, and may He also continue to bless the United States of America.

Every Marine Corp birthday I think of you, and your sacrifice for our country. You will remain forever in my thoughts, as the young man who told us that your ultimate goal in life was to be a Marine. We were proud of you then, and we are proud of you now. God bless you and all Marines on this day.

It's hard to believe that 19 years have gone by since Wes was killed in combat. We praise God that the US Marines still stand ready to protect our country. Sadly (but proudly), our well-worn hero bracelets remind us of the high price some have paid to maintain this protection. We thank Wes' family and the Marines that served alongside him, and ask that God continue to bless them and keep them.

Wes would be 39 years old if he were alive today. Allison and I still mourn his loss, but are thankful that he and his fellow Marines were (and still are) willing to stand and defend our country. May God bless Chayla and the rest of Wes' family, and may He bless the US Marines.

We continue to praise Wes and his willingness to defend us and his country. We still remember his smile and young face before he left on his final deployment. We are so grateful as well for the US Marines, and thank all of those who have served our country over the years, and all of those who continue to stand ready to defend us.
May God richly bless all of them!

LCPL Wesley Canning,
I can not believe that it has been almost 15 years since that fateful day. I think that everybody that was there with you that day still feels the pain of your loss to this day. Especially all your brothers in 3rd Platoon Delta Company. I did not know you as well as guys like CPL Josh Orndorff, but it was definitely an honor to have served with a hero such as yourself. Your memory lives on with us all brother and you will never be forgotten. I share your story with my Soldiers to this very day. Yes, I got out of the Marine Corps and joined the Army. At Wes' memorial service in May 2005 at Camp Lejeune, the base chaplain quoted Joshua 4:4-9 where the Israelites were commanded to collect and place stones to commemorate crossing the Jordan river. The chaplain then asked us to never forget the sacrifice of the U.S. Marines as they defend our country. We can't and won't forget what Wes and the Marines have done for us.
I ask God to bless Wes' family and the families of all of those brave folks who sacrificed all.

To the memory of Wes: Fourteen years have passed, yet we still remember the midnight phone call telling us that Wes had been killed in action in Iraq. We know that such memories reside in the minds of many, many parents, spouses, relatives and friends of so many brave Marines. We respect and honor their sacrifices.
God bless Wes' family. God bless the U.S Marines for standing on the front lines in defending our country.

We still remember the 12:15 am call on November 12, 2004 letting us know that Wes had been killed in action in Iraq. The passage of time has dulled somewhat the pain of that day, but it has not dulled our memory of Wes. We miss him still. What a loss.
God bless the families of all of the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in serving our country. We pray especially for those Marines and Army personnel who served alongside Wes in the battle for Fallujah, and who live today with the memories of that time and place.

Hey cousin. How are you. I know that I haven't talked to you I mean talking to God to tell you things in a while but I always think of you. You were such a great person to look up to when I was younger. I still look up to you even though your not physically here but your mentally and emotionally here. I remember when my grandpa Nick showed me the funeral video I just starts to cry and cry. My dad, mom, Juan, Brittany, and celma miss you so much. I remember when I was younger you and Chayla bought celma Winnie the Pooh stuff when she was in my moms tummy. I really wish you were still here. I think about you all the time. It would be so get if you were here to see me grow from a little Tayah into a young adult Tayah and watch me get married and see my kids. I will always keep your remembrance on for as long as I live I will always tell stories you would tell me and jokes you would say. Your were a great husband to my great, amazing, and wonder and beautiful cousin Chayla. I miss you like so much. I have a picture of you and Chayla in my room. It's one of the best pictures I have ever seen you and Chayla so happy in. I love you and hope I could see you again and soon. Love you Wes. Your always be in my heart and in my thoughts.

Eleven years have gone by so fast. It's hard to believe Wes would be 32 now. We still remember in September 2004 when he and Chayla stopped in Memphis. Wes was on his way back to Lejuene, as he was set to deploy back to Iraq. What a loss . . .
My bracelet with Wes' name on it is beat up and scratched, but I still wear it proudly. Allison and I honor Wes' service and will always remember his sacrifice.
God bless his family and the Marines who served with him.

From CrossFit 38 degrees North in Petaluma California:
"So I told you guys last night that Daniel Mercado, one of our 38 North Athletes, is a Marine and was in Iraq in November of 2004 for the battle of Fallujah II. Daniel sent me an e-mail last week requesting that we dedicate a WOD for Marine Corp(on the weekend of the CORP's B Day) and Wesley J Canning a soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice and was killed in action serving his country on November 10th, 2004. Each rep count connected to each movement represents the date Wesley was taken from us 11/10/2004. Please remember each and every one of the men and women who continue to serve protecting and representing the country we love. The one's that are gone will continue to be sorely missed, and the ones that are out there serving presently are in all of our thoughts and prayers to safely make it home. We will be thinking about all of you as we battle through “Wesley” tomorrow."

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Jason, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Hello Joe and Canning family. It is rare that a day goes by without me thinking of Wesley and all of you. Before Wesley departed for his second tour in Iraq him and Joe came by the office. Wesley was able to come into my office for atleast and hour or so. It was the first time I met him. I was able to sit and talk to him about simple things. I was also able to tell him how proud and greatfull I was, he was very modest and smiled, saying awh its nothing. I wish i would have wraped my arms around him before he walked out that day instead of extending my hand for a shake.
Thanks for everything.

My son, SGT Joshua N. Orndorff service with Wes in Iraq. I want you to know that not one day goes by that he does not think of Wes and his family.
He wears a "Hero Bracelet" on his wrist everyday and NEVER removes it. It is his constant reminder of his brother.
Joshua is a recruiter in Melrose Mass. now and my husband and I spend every Veterans Day with Joshua. It is a really tough time for him to get through, them memory of that day haunts him.
He wants to talk to Wes' family but I think he is afraid of bringing them pain of the past.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I only knew your son from having gone to the same school with him. I am ashamed to say that I learned more about him after his heroic death rather than during his accomplished life, but I know that Wes did something which people will never forget. I hope that his contribution, to the spread of democracy in the Middle East, will add some solice to the grief you will feel forever. In conclusion I say to you, God be with you and your family, and may Wesley's legacy forever be remembered for what it is. A hero.
God Bless and thank you Wesley,
Dustin Ford

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. I have a brother right now serving in Kwait and I worry each and every day for him and everyone over there. I want to say that you have a very special place in my heart and thank you very much.

Wes was a terrific kid to be around. His parents were terrific also. His Dad, Joe was super with all the boys and took them places and entertained them. His Mom was a wonderful person always taking such good care of her family. My son, Rani, and Wes went to P.H.Greene togeather. We will always remember Wes as a great person and friend. Our family grieves this loss. It has really hit home what the military is doing for us. We will always love you Wes! Karen & Robby Sabban

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your hero. My beloved nephew, my hero, Lance Corporal Billy Miller, has now joined Wes and other fellow Marines as they guard the gates of Heaven. While there are no words to ease your pain and no medicine to mend your broken heart, rest knowing that Wes is now safe and out of harm's way. The people of America are grateful for the sacrifices of these young men and women who are fighting for our country and our continued freedom. We are especially grateful to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. May God bless you and watch over you and your family in this time of grief.
